There are so many different types of shows.
For me as an actor and filmmaker, I try to look at what can entertain me, make me feel, and give my life lessons.
Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and House are great shows with Better Call Saul entering its third season. Silicon Valley is a great show for young men too. Heroes was amazing as far as its first season.
Anime has probably offered me the most depth as far as examining my life, humanity, and feeling deep emotions. For men as far as anime I recommend Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, Attack on Titan (so many parallels with our political landscape) Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop (the star is my avatar), Parastye, and Berserk.
I remember when I watched full metal alchemist brotherhood for the first time. My roommate who was a navy seal introduced it to me. It totally changed the way that I view facing challenges in life.
Death Note made me realize that morals are subjective and I might be better off without them.
Attack on Titan just shows how ****ed up humanity is.
Neon Genesis Evangelion made me study psychoanalysis and really understand how each person that we meet affects us.
Cowboy Bebop showed me just how damaging holding onto the past can be.
Parastye I actually just finished. That show taught me how self righteous we human are over "lesser beings".
