I am a librarian and I am heterosexual. The woman/man ration in librarianship is either 5 to 1 or 4 to 1.

Atleast half of the men seem effinimate or gay. But why? Is this commonplace in female dominated professions?

I don't see what is so feminine about working with books and helping people find information.

most guys are too buissy doing other things then living in the fantasy world....they would rather turn on the tv, and watch a guy show, rather then read some romance novel.

i guess it would be due to profesions as well i guess.

That's a dumb response. By the way, your spelling sucks. Maybe you should spend more time in the library.

There's certain occupations that have certain stigmas to them, such as Airline Flight Attendant, Nurse, Cosmetologist (I think most of the makeup artists I've met on film sets are straight), and I guess librarian might be added, but personally, I don't see it. In the end, I suppose the stereotypes are false.
By the way, for a librarian, your spelling/grammer could use some improvement as well.

Until they put in a shooter bar at the library I think I'd stick to just studying there.

Yeah, I have never seen a straight male flight attendant

Reading is "living in the fantasy world" but sitting on the sofa watching 24 is not?

I would say that 9 out of 10 makeup artists are gay. Trust me on that. The field I am in is dominated by gay men. If it has to do with fashion or design you had better believe that gay men will be front and center. Even in cultures that are not as comfortable with gays as America they are still there. I have no problem in admitting that many of my interests are the same as gay men. If you like what you are doing leave it at that.

Stereotypes are by and large true. Even gay men joke about such things. Luckily, my segment of the field is mixed with gay men and swarthy lotharios. In saying that, I actually prefer the gay men over some swarthy French speaking guy.

I haven't noticed any gay male librarians here in Nashville (I go to the library every week). But pretty much all the male librarians here come off as either creepy or kind of loser-y (not saying you are, but these ones are). Although everything is self checkout here, and I go to the library so often that I seldom need any help, so I don't intertact with them that often.

A REAL MAN is an alpha, a provider.. Makes enough money to provide for himself and live a lavish lifestyle. A real man is a success story, a never ending self improvement machine..

What is a librarian? It's like a waitress. Dead end job, no possibility for advancement.

What you giving us, helping people find information, that is an excuse.. You also putting people in front of you, because you are not your number 1. You are beta. Thus, feminine, a faggit.

Guys, with seduction skills many of us have, you could be making a lot of money by hustling.. Look at me, I'm doing things, eBay, whatever.. Use your brain, and use your magnetism to make yourself a success.. There is no reason why each one of you can't get off your butts and make 100k a year, at least, working for yourselfs.. All of you have enough, and enough to get started, if you could only stop making excuses, come up, and deliver.

To increase your chances of success, always think positive.

I have a girlfriend - who wants to marry me - who just got a job as a librarian. She's super hot like 5'10" just that she has black hair and I like blond - oneitis trapped for 2 years. Anyway, this awesome bodied, awesome behaviored, awesome loving chicka I told her that I thought that it was awesome that she got a job as a librarian. She's winning points with me, because to have a hot wife like that as a librarian working with gays would secure my trust of her over a wife who is out in the world traveling around meetin CEOs and stuff. I might pull the trigger and marry this black-haired queen. I'm VERY tempted now that you brought the subject up again.

Dude, you sell DVDs online... Thats sooo masculine . Why don't you get off your ass and get a real job providing a service that people actually need. By the way, you misspelled 'faggot'.

Hahaha, you're a real man because you run an Ebay business!?!? Talk about room for advancement! You can advance to head keyboard jockey on sosauve! I LOVE this website.

I balance airplanes so they don't crash. No room for advancement there, I'm just like a waitress. I don't pull in 100k a year, live a lavish lifestyle and work for myself, so I must be a "faggit." I certainly am not a "real" man (I love people who put the word "real" in front of something and pretend it changes the word, or clarifies the meaning at all. Good thing you used all caps too, because otherwise we wouldn't have known you meant REAL MAN, instead of the plain ol' "real man").

I love the confidence the internet gives complete idiots to feel superior to others.

Well, he kinda has a point. The reason you will see male servers at restaurants is because they're entry-level guys who are in the process of working toward some other goal, like acting or going to college or whatever. Being a librarian is more of a real, permanent job, so most guys don't want to do it because they want to progress toward something greater. For example, you could probably make more money by utilizing your manly strength to join the police or the military -- without needing any more education than a librarian. Ultimately, most low-stress jobs tend to be filled by women because men have a comparative advantage when it comes to stress management.

And any kind of self-employment, be it ebay-based or not, will impose stress and require manly stoicism. It will also offer the possibility of tremendous financial success (along with risk).

Ebay? Isn't that what fat 40-something women in hellish places like Florida and Iowa do? I'm sure that the ebay world offers you plenty of great opportunities to impress. Say hi to Pam in Sarasota for me.

LMAO!!!

Mr. Wolf who are you to say that being a librarian isn't being a success?! People measure success in different ways. He might be doing exactly what he wants to do.

At least he doesn't have to worry about how to compete with competitors. Plus he has the opportunity to bang his female co workers in the stacks...gotta love a sexy librarian.

I suppose you have the advantage of auctioning off your virginity though right?

... Or maybe advertising space on his forehead. Mr. Wolf is responsible for some of the most hilarious posts I've ever seen. I just hope he dosn't get banned... this place would be so dull without him around.

I used to work security in a library. I must be one faggy nerd.

What's funny is the only male librarian i know personally is a gay guy. He makes a comfortable living. In answer to your question, I do think it's commonplace for men to be gay in order to succeed in a female dominated profession. It's kind of like a matrix thing. Women will discriminate against a heterosexual single guy in a profession women dominate.

mr wolf is PR_L / LMS. or one of the other millions of trolls from this site that were banned.

(has that been said already? i've been lurking on this site for a while not reading the posts that could have been avoided by using the search function... nothing stands out on this site anymore.)
