Female, coffee and feminism

Have you noticed there are way more coffee female drinkers then male? This is complete opposide in other contries, you will hardly see female coffee drinkers at all. I believe woman drink coffee just as how one would become a smoker, it is a social acceptance of along the line *hey look at me, I look sophisticated holding a starbuck cup in my hand and you must respect me because I live the american way of life*

You ask what does one gets there energy drinks from? for male, the top drink would be Redbull. Why bother with waiting inline buying coffee or make one when you can just chug down a can of Redbull?

The amount of female coffee drinkers vs male are double. If you haven't figure it out by now, this has nothing to do with coffee. It has everything to do with female are much more in tune with their social life than male and does whatever they can to get a feeling of power over men or both sex for that matter.

I don't think it has anything to do with that. Woman just like the taste of it. Most woman I know don't like enegry drinks. Personally I don't like coffee but most woman I know love it. I don't think they drink it to look sophisticated because I know a lot of woman who drink coffee in their own homes when nobody is there but when they are lazy or not at home they just buy it.

Heh you can't see the connection of what you just said with people that smoke? nobody like smoking at first, they all do it because they want to fit in and then addicted just like you can get addicted to coffee. They can't get enought of it thats when they start smoking anywhere.

I see more women d1cking around in coffee shops, but more guys buying coffee. If you count heads sitting in the store you see 2 women for every guy. If you count people walking up and buying coffee it's a lot more even with more guys by a bit.

I think the women are hoping to get hit on.

Coffee shops are a social environment now - sit down, chat, etc. - you expected something different? I should also mention that most coffee shops sell more pastries, knick knacks, potpourri and other random sh!t than they do coffee these days (not to mention all the milkshakes that pass for coffee now), so figure that in too.

I think you're reading into it too much (OP). There's a lot of reasons to drink coffee beyond some "social acceptance" reason. I know I drink the stuff throughout the day, and my reasons are taste and, admittingly, I'm addicted to the drug too. I could not care less if someone sees me drinking it, and i dont feel it really helps or hurts an image.

If females do drink more of it than males, that's news to me. I would think its about even - it looks even at my place of business.

I don't know where you guys lived but when I was in school and there were way more woman buying coffee then men, I spoke to my sister about this and she agreeded that alot of woman drink coffee because it looks cool and socially acceptable. It is no different than smoking accept that smoking kills you. The thing is that smoking looks more "cool" on men than woman so you'll see more woman adopting coffee to fit in.

I think it's a good trend actually, maybe because I like coffee. It's a great inexpensive way to get to know women. A coffee date. They seem to love it, and you get to know them better over a good ol' cup of Joe. Minimal investment. Plus, I've noticed coffee shops have more women in them too, so being the guy, you are the minority..makes you more in demand. Use it to your advantage, drink coffee!

Yeah. Perhaps in a way I've always known that because one of the more target rich environments where i live is the combo Barnes N Nobles/Starbucks.

I drink it for taste though.

Last I checked a mocha frappucino isn't coffee! Women might get a latte or something, but I will get an americano, a man's drink. You can't compare what women call coffee to men.

i like coffee flavored coffee that you can't seem to buy anywhere these days and when you can find coffee flavored coffee somewhere, its way to strong or stale and its way overpriced.
call me a cheapo but i prefer to make my eight o clock bean coffee at home on my ten dollar coffee pot that has lasted forever or at work on that cheap coffee pot that has also lasted forever.
i would also prefer that people did not come talk to me while i am having my first two cups of coffee. that is the time of the day that i like to enjoy being alive and i cherish that time to myself. i also use that time to become fully awake and prepared for the day.
however, i could drink coffee all day and i enjoy drinking it at night, but it is the first two cups that i would like to keep to myself.

my mother and father and 2 out of 3 brothers drink coffee. the other drinks hot tea. all four of my grandparents and all my aunts and uncles drink coffee.
my boss drinks more coffee than i do.
i have two male co workers, one drinks pepsi all day and the other drinks one cup of coffee each morning.

at the apartment complex that i manage, more men run out of coffee and come into our office/shop to borrow some of ours than women. the women never seem to get that low.

my husband does not like coffee but likes a good capachino every now and then, hot cocoa in the winter and he really seems to like energy drinks lately.

Come on.

Go sit 3 hours at a coffee place, it's about the same mix of genders as the random people in other nearby shops. If you go to an area that's full of women shopping you find lots of women, in the engineering rich little tech area I frequent it's packed full of guys with little security badges on, and some women hoping to get hit on by a guy with a fat wallet.

Good post. I was just talking about this phenomena the other day, every morning and lunch all these chicks wandering around with coffee cups???.

You get the occasional douche with his very own cup thrown into the mix now and then but nowhere near the vast growing numbers of coffee cupped chicks.

Was there an episode of grey's anatomy or whatever sh!t theyre watching now I missed to explain this bizarreness, wtf is going on????

I usually pass on those offers. Sitting around a table in a poorly lit coffee shop surrounded by estrogen doesn't compare to watching sports with the boys.

It's all just mindless chatter and gossip as well. While I don't mind unwinding or chilling somewhere, mindless talking is not my idea of being a social creature.

It is a social place for women that is what coffee shop have become. Coffee is just an excuse for them to get out of the house, sit around and talk for 2-3 hours somewhere else and not feel bad that they just wasted time. It is also what mature and sophisticated adults used to drink so next time you see that 18 year old blond chick with her t1ts almost hanging out wearing sandles, ipod in one hand and chatting like a motormouth on her cellphone to her best friend remember.... she is mature and sophisticated because she's got a latte in her hands .
