What's most important to you is what's in your best interest in this situation. Pay a couple of thousand dollars worth of fines and court fees, a night in jail, and a loss of your drivers license for a few months. You'll also have to attend some classes about the abuse of alcohol (and you'll pay for the class). You'll have to do community service. I'm sure picking up trash on side of the road will be so much fun. Oh, and the possibility of your insurance sky rocketing if you can't get your DUI/DWI expunged from your record on your first offense, but if you get a traffic ticket, you'll lose this privilege and your insurance will go up anyway. Also, the other factor: Will you be sober enough to make it home safely or will you get in a wreck and kill yourself or someone else?

I have 3 very good friends that died because of drunk driving. Three separate wrecks, but they all suffered the same fate. I miss them very much. I also had an acquaintance that ran over two girls mistaking them for deer. He even called his dad the next day and told him he had hit a deer. When he went out the next night and found out that someone had ran over two girls and killed one of them, he instantly knew that he was the culprit. Knowing he couldn't live with himself after what he had done, he went home and committed suicide.

I think it would be best to spend the money on a cab. Cheaper, too.

Anyway, it's all up to you.

oh man...driving intoxicated.

About a year and a half ago I got drunk off my ass right after I got into a confrontation with my sisters BF. A little after I had finished drinking, a friend calls me up asking me to pick him up from Red Lobster. I got there and was still at a pretty high buzz(low drunk). He asked me if I was good to drive and I convinced him that I was. Not long after we hit the road we were side by side with a cop and I noticed that his window was a little open. I then rolled down the passengers side window where my friend was sitting and yelled out "IM DRUNK MOTHERFCUKER!! WHAT?!" and sped off. My friend was in shock and said "DUDE! WHAT THE **** ARE YOU DOING?!". Thats when I looked at my rear view window and noticed that the cop was now tailing me. We reached the stop light and was gonna make a left. At this time I was hoping that the cop was just simply going the same way I was. When the light turned green, his lights went off. My friend at this time was in a state of panic and just kept telling me what a dumbfcuk I was for doing what I did and I just kept telling him "i got this, so stfu!". When I pulled over, 2 officers were flashing their flashlights into my car(one at me and the other at my friend from the passengers side). I rolled down my window and handed the cop my liscense and registration. He told me "Sir, did you know that the registration on your liscense plate is expired? You got the new one right here so just stick that on there when you get home ok?" and I was like "oh sorry about that officer!"(slurred) and he said "alright, good night and drive safe"...I luckily got away that night and had a long ass lecture from my friend afterwards...But yea, that was pretty fcukin retarded of me and considering that I know ALL the consequences now...just don't drive intoxicated dude...
That is the dumbest thing i have ever read on these forums lol.

This is my view on drunk drivers
I like most of the people here because i love to read these forums but i would like to say that i hope every one of you that drives drunk gets cought next time you do it. Why do i say this .... well i like my safety and i have seen drunk drivers before. My dad used to own a club/restaurant and there wouold be people that would get sooooo drunk they would not be able to back their car up from the parking lot but they insisted on driving even after my dad offered to drive them himself for free since they were usual customers. I have also drivin behind a drunk driver numerous of times and seen so many times where they almost caused a car accident. Sometimes i wanna call the police and report a drunk driver but i am not that bad YET!

I have driven drunk 1000 times at least (meaning legally drunk). I have never been pulled over drunk thank god. If you live in Chicago the cops there really don't give a fvck as long as you don't do nothing to stupid. (meaning accident or driving like a total idiot).

In the surrounding suburbs these c0cksucker cops will actually hide across the street from the bars and see people pulling out and pull them over on bullsh1t. Everyone has driven drunk. Including the asssshole cop that is going to bust you.

Take this advice. If they ever pull you over never blow, and never admit that you were drinking. Tell the cops you know what officer, i don't have time for this so just take me to jail.make sure you don't talk too much. This is a way to beat the dui in court. you are still going to get your license suspended but you headaches will be less.

Not worth it at all. You either walk home, have someone sober drive, or get a cab. I got a DUII; spent the night in jail, lost my license for 3 months, lost my job and fines you gotta pay. The next time you do it you could kill yourself or others.

Now, I got off pretty easy than, some of you guys. I got a court appointed attorney, only lost my license for three months, only spent 1 night in jail and owe under 1,000 dollars in fees. And for 1 month I only had to go to 1 three hour class once a week then, get my license back.

But, the bottom line is don't drink and drive.

Take a cab. It's only a 10-mile trip. Somtimes I wonder WTF is wrong with people on these boards and it appears to go far beyond not being able to pull chicks regularly.

I very rarely get extremely plastered anymore, but if I'm feeling over my limit I just keep drinking water until I feel confident. I used to have some nasty close calls though.

Yeah you know what gets me is they set the limit so low that few people would actually be impaired at the limit. I don't think anyone is for anyone else driving while they are impaired, but all these stiff penalties and fines for DWI are borderline scam and hoopla. I mean if they're throwing the book at people with an .08 or.10 who were driving perfectly fine, then it's just scam. Someone who is actually impaired and driving a least somewhat irradically is a different matter.

I can remember a time as a kid before Madd propagnda when people would open a beer and have a drink driving down the road and maybe even throw the can out the window lol. I'm not saying it should be that lax but there's got to be a more reasonable medium. It's getting to the point where you can't do anything in the US without spending big money. Let's see a round trip cab ride from the suburbs to downtown. What does that cost $50.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

Before MADD the legal limit was .15

Use some common sense. No cab fare is more expensive than the s.hitstorm you're in for if you get a DUI. Either get a DD, call a cab, or don't drive.
Maybe for people who always get totally plastered, but for a moderate drinker this isn't totally true. Multiply the cab fare times a 1000 or even a few 100 times, not to mention the inconvience and then even the outlandish DUI penatilies don't really seem that big in comparison. Although losing your licenses for 3-6 months and having the DUI on your record probably makes it a bad gamble. Either way you're going to pay unless you live close to the entertainment district.

The big thing is the fines and penalties weren't as high and you had to actually be impaired before cops bothered with it.

If you drive your car to a bar or club and feel that you are too drunk to drive home, what should you do?

I can't imagine taking a taxi and leaving your car at the bar over night and hoping that nothing happens to it. The only other solution I can think of is sleeping in your car but that's probably just as dangerous.

I this there anything like a designated driver service, where instead of taking a ride home in a taxi, somebody comes and drives you home in your car.

I use the 1 drink per hour rule, so if I have had 6 drinks I will usually try to space them over 6 hours then I know I will be good to drive. Sometimes I'll have like 2 at a bar then drive after an hour, thats not bad. Driving drunk is just stupid, not worth it! If you get in an accident and kill or hurt someone your screwed...Be smart. You can have fun without alcohol.

In big cities (I'm in Chicago) it's not as common as rural areas, for a variety of reasons. Public transit, cabs, and everything being close make it slightly easier to avoid. Also, even if you do it, you hardly get caught unless you run into/over something/someone. Not too many traffic cops crawling around at bar close time, they're all busy making drug busts.

In suburbia and rural areas it's extremely common. I was in this farm town once and at a bar with my buddies, and we got tipsy and asked the bartender where we can get a cab, and he said there were none. Literally, no cab service in that area. We look outside, and three cops are just sitting on their hoods, waiting for us to come out. It's a trap, and they do it on purpose. We ended up calling up a buddy's wife to pick us up, she was pissed, but understood.

In suburbia and college towns it's really common as well, mostly because people think they can get away with the 3 miles they have to go to get home. If you press your luck too often, you will get nailed, though. Most people I know don't assign DD's, we never did in college. I tried to arrange going to places where we could walk somewhere afterwards. I'm personally very conscious about driving drunk, I think I may have done it once, but won't do it again. However, it's very common.

My farmer friends told me that the most entertaining thing to do in their town was drive around and drink and drive and get completely wasted on rural roads in the middle of nowhere, that was their typical Friday night. Good fun.

Get a cab, crash at someone's house or just sleep in the car, trust me it's totally worth it. you're not the only one on the road... I don't want to wait for someone close to me to get injured or die in a drunk driving accident so this becomes a "personal" issue, it's just common sense. .25? oh snap

You couldn't pay me to do it.

I've heard too many stories.

a) My brother is a ROTC instructor and one of his midshipmen was out at some party, and decided to drive while drunk. He hit and killed a pedestrian. Not only did he just screw his entire life over, but he will probably spend a ton of time in jail. This kid had a future as a naval officer. What a waste.

b) A kid at my high school was riding his bike home on the street. A drunk driver hit and killed him. He was only 17.

c) Have those of you considering this ever been in a serious car accident? I was in one about eight months ago. I still can't get the image out of my head. The truck hit the car I was in right behind the passenger door (I was in the passenger seat). If he had hit my door, I would be dead. The scariest thing was I saw the whole thing unfold. This guy must have been going at least 55, too.

My point is there is way too much risk here. Use some common sense people. Even if no accident occurs, it is irresponsible to yourself and others to drive impaired. Don't drink, or find some other arrangements.
