Style

I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with Diesel jeans. They are probably the coolest and best kinda jeans out there. The fading and the material are top notch, they are kinda expensive but worth it. If you don't have that kinda cash, a good substitute would be Mavi jeans, but the material and fading won't be as good as Diesel jeans.

I guess my style would be a pair of Diesel jeans with a cool T-shirt (Diesel, Puma, Triple 5 Soul, etc.) The retro look is really cool now. So another suggestion would be old track jackets, and old school runners like the Adidas shell toes or a nice pair of Pumas.
A lot of celebrities dress like this too like Justin, Christina, and Ashton Kutcher.

I used to go for the GQ look (Banana Republic, Club Monaco, Kenneth Cole, DKNY, etc.). I wore lots of dress shirts and nice slacks. I got bored with this look, so I tried something new.

But it depends on the look and girls you wanna attract. I'm an asian guy, so I get looks from asian girls when I dress with t-shirts and jeans. It seems to me that a lot of white guys dress either thuggish (Roca Wear, FUBU, Sean John), causual (A+F, American Eagle, Campus Crew) or skatish (Quicksilver, Zoo York)

Also, there is nothing worng with Kenneth Cole shoes, they are expensive but are good quality shoes. You don't need to break the bank by buying Hugo Boss, or Testoni shoes. Kenneth Cole is good enough.

I think dress pants are a little over board for when your just out and about on your daily tasks, or going to a movie or the mall or whatever.

I was at Express Men trying some clothes on right. Ive never been in their before. Well i had these 120 dollar express jeans, they were like a dark blue, with a light blue fade/whisker wash (those bleach lines you see on the thighs) they were probably one of the best pair of jeans ive tried on.

To accompany it i had a very distinct blue, not a dark or a torquiose but somewhere in the middle button up long sleeve shirt. Now that looked slick. i walked out of the dressing room and i got mad stares from this chick i felt so pimp. Too bad i couldnt afford the jeans, well i could, but i didnt wanna spend that much haha.

This look was very dressed up beause of the shirt, the jeans you could tell were high quality, however i was wearing some timbalands and it made it all look stupid, i need some new shoes. I thougt that maybe i could pull off wearing some nice sneakers like some Iversons or some Air force 1's.

Jeans are just fine, IMO. The #1 thing that will get girls to check you out is if you tuck your shirt in, if you have a nice upper body. Even if you are wearing khaki shorts, you still more than double your looks with a tucked-in shirt. Don't blow your budget trying to look like someone you're not, especially if you're in college. College guys all look the same so just tuck-in your shirt with jeans or something, and you're fine.

Has anybody had success capitalizing on the looks that you get, though? It seems to me that girls are such emotional creatures that if you get them all horny from your looks, they'll basically fall for any game you spit at them, haha.

I have to say that I do agree with you guys. I used to be fairly sloppy and then found I was someone that really cleaned up rather nice. I think being well dressed at college helped me out a lot.

My only problem was that I was so damn tall. I am 6'11" and found that some clothes with a 38" sleeve and inseem were a ***** to get at the actual tall shops. You would have to order them factory direct. Over the past five years major brands have seen the money in the big and tall customer. I can now get Calvin Klien suits and other normal designers. I found that the really nice stuff is pricey and then some. Especially leather coats or sport coats. But I got buy fairly well.

I enjoy crew necks and dressier pocketless t shirts with the pants to go well with my look.

I don't see what is the big deal as to whether your shirt is tucked in or not. I normally never tuck in my shirts unless I'm wearing a suit.

The problem with this thread is probably that you're getting looks, but I didn't hear anything beyond that. If you're walking around a mall and you're all dressy, you'll probably get looks, but maybe it's just because you stand out, and not because they think you're hot stuff or something.

If I wear a big yellow chicken suit and walk through a supermarket, I'm sure all eyes will be on me.

I agree, the clothes really help. We had to dress up for our speeches, and most guys just wore khaki pants with a polo shirt. I decided to wear some black dress slacks and a bright blue flat button up shirt with like the first 2 buttons unbuttoned. Had a black belt and black shoes. I got compliments from a bunch of girls. Then on my evaluation sheet one of the girls wrote "looking good as usual!" and gave me the highest score for appearance.

See, the thing is...normally I wear shorts sandals and a t-shirt, so they really noticed when I dressed up.

This is a key point here. If you are around people you know, the best way to make a big impression is to keep yourself pretty normal, and then pull out all the stops all of a sudden. If done correctly, you'll make a serious statement.

I remember back in high school I wore pretty ordinary clothes. Never wore jeans, mainly shorts and t-shirts. Then, I got a GF, and started dressing nicer. One day I wore jeans and dressy shoes and she couldn't keep her hands off me, and her friends were also very impressed. However, it's important to make sure to put an end to the Cinderella act so they will appreciate every time you dress up a little more. In other words, make sure you don't give them too much of a good thing.

I've never noticed any difference in
females looking at me depending on
what I'm wearing..... Am I missing something?
How do you guys know you're getting
anymore looks than usual?
I'm thinking Becker has it correctly:
it's basically the same effect as if
you wore a Big Yellow Chicken suit -
and you'd be expecting more looks too....

They're nice looking, decent quality shoes, but you could spend a little bit more, and get QUALITY, which is gonna last.
Mr. Latte is correct. Get good shoes.

Any suggestions on brands, Mr. Latte?

Someone should post some tips for us!

I had a friend who was amazing at wearing good combination of clothes. He had this "talent". I wish I had it too. Sometimes I spend 30 minutes or more trying to come up with something interesting to wear.

it does not all come down to wearing slacks with a button-down, guys... ;)

its a little bit more complicated than that. I can get as many looks in my diesels and pumas, as I do when im dressed to the nines..

quick primer - learn the basics of style, what matches, what doesn't, what's always going to look good and so on. Its simple. Just remember that fashion down not equal style. Too many people only follow the current fashion without understanding the basic principles of style, and thats where they run into trouble.

Onto fashion.
-Shoes are important. Say it with me. Make sure you own more casual shoes than sneakers. And yes, casual includes those lace up shoes that are comfy, yet look better than nike air doofus when you wear your jeans.

-learn what looks good on you. Short guys look funny in short jackets. Vertical stripes are always good, horizontal are bad. There is a ton of information on this floating around the net..

-Add a personal touch to the way you dress. Everyone wears buttondowns and slacks around here, do something different to stand out. Wear fitted instead of lose shirts.. maybe add a leather cuff.. get nice stylish glasses.. wear a blazer.. whatever, just don't look like a typical AFC.

Some quick nonos..
-white socks with dress/casual shoes.. try to match your pants and socks (not shoes and socks necessarily)
-belt matches shoes unless you really know what works better (sometimes you can wear a cool belt thats diff. from shoes, but only if you know what you're doing)
-NEVER wear slick sports sunglasses (oakleys, etc) with nice clothes. Thats as bad as white socks with dress shoes.
-sneakers with jeans are AFC wear, unless said sneakers are the fashionable casual kind like adidas or pumas or skechers or something (dont wear skechers sneakers though, way 1999)

gotta cut this short, but i can continue this if you guys like.. maybe give some eurotrash tips to looking like a stylish guy..

Being dressed to the 9's is definitely nice. Helps you get looks from really good looking girls, sure. But I've gone out lately dressed the way I dress sometimes on weekends, pretty "Guido" looking (well , I AM one technically I guess) ; running pants, white gym shoes, a tight tucked in t-shirt with my medals hanging out the front, maybe a matching track jacket if it's cool out, and a "do-rag" on my head ( not that nylon kind that the black dudes wear ~ too Ali G for me ~ the bandanna kind). And I've not had any shortage of "looks" from females. Plus I add in a good cologne. I recently got the number from this really nice looking (in my opinion at least) Puerto Rican girl while I was dressed this way. We met at the video store. So there's nothing saying you have to be dressed up to have success in the field. I would say I would dress for the target so to speak. If I was going to try to pull a 9.5 who's a businesswoman in the Loop, for instance, I'd NOT be dressed anything like the way I said above. But for just bumming around, I think alot of girls like a casual look. ~Dino

Style is one area i need major change. I've gotten away with casual look probably because I am not bad looking. However, I think it's time to uo the ante.

Would someone mind posting pics of what's worked well for them. I'd like to see some examples to get an idea of what I might want to try.

Obviously, don't post your heads or anything. Even links to department store examples of something similar would be cool.

I personally love Banana Republic. But my budget doesn't let me buy their clothing haha, but you can get almost the exact same thing for a lot less at a cheaper store.

I work at H&M (If you haven't heard of it, its like designer fashion clothing, but really well priced! All of the stuff is very good looking, and it doesn't kill your budget.)
Fitted shirts always look nice, it makes your shoulders look broader, so if you aren't really muscular like me lol, then its a great item to have.

I wore my favourite fitted shirt, lot of veritcal blue lines (different degrees of blue), a pair of dress pants and my Armani Belt and lace free dress shoes, and went to the college's pub, and holy **** was I being checked out, girls were talking to me complimenting my shirt. Guys were asking me where I got it, just really made a differences...

Price:
Shirt: $34.90 (25% Discount)
Belt: $19.90 (Second Hand Store)
Trousers: $45.00 (On Sale from 99.99)
Shoes: $79.00 (On sale from $149.00)

Total $179.80 ... Retail New: 378.90

But getting the attention I did, and taking the second hottest girl there to my room that night was allllll worth it lol. Plus I wear it for job interviews and the shoes look good with jeans.

That's a good idea. We should have a pictures thread for guys to get ideas on how to dress. "Just go to Express and grab a shirt" isn't cutting it for me. I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

If you want to look nice but feel really "loose" and comfortable as well as give off the cool and comfortable vibes, I suggest nice Guayaberas

I always been wearing baggy jeans and white tees so it was really hard for me to start wearing pants and regular button up shirts or anything else, but I found that guayaberas were really comfortable and the subtle stitching designs on the front seperate it from the other plain button ups everyone else is wearing...... or those ugly ass button ups with the stripes and ****... niggas lookin' like walking optical illusions and ****

hmm will it look ok together? yes.. is it going to be a sharp look? not sure. more important are you going to look good in it? no idea. it all depends.

but in general, cargo pants are not that hot anymore, and a blue polo short can be good or bad depending..

How many times did you get laid because of your clothes?

Report some real results, not just saying that chicks noticed you. Yes good clothes will get you noticed but they will not get you the girl. Think about that for a minuite or two.
