Master Don Juan
Well whatever - cultivating chi, being at one with yourself and nature etc, I've heard it before and I'm not impressed tbh.Rhoto said:If you think the martial arts are all about fighting, it shows how juvenile your mind and experience really are.
At the end of the day, it comes down to fighting, hence the name MARTIAL arts. And I stand by my original point that in a world where almost every violent crime is comitted with the use of some sort of weapon, learning a martial art is pointless.
PLUS, not knowing how to fight may save you. Consider this, person one, a martial artist gets confronted by a dude who demands he hand over his wallet. The martial artist tells him to f.uck off at which point the attacker pulls out a knife and stabs the guy in the heart - the martial artist had never been in a fight/wasn't quick enough/came up against a better fighter/whatever.
Person 2, a non-martial artist gets confronted and gives over his wallet, containing a driver's license, a credit card and 20 bucks which can all be swiftly replaced.
Seriously in today's society, I think learning avoiding trouble is a far more effective tactic than learning a martial art.
I think learning to defend oneself is a noble pursuit but honestly is irrelevant given the current social climate, particularly America's flippancy when it comes to gun ownership.
