I've had insomnia for most of my adult life, and it has progressively gotten worse. I have a type of insomnia, called terminal insomnia. I'll go to sleep just fine, and then wake up three to five hours later, tired, but full of cortisol and adrenaline. I've tried everything natural to cure this, and it's not fun.

What have tried to improve your sleep?

How old are you? I always sense the average age at this message board is around 20 years old

I've tried everything on the internet that advises on how to cure insomnia. My issue is low blood sugar around 2-3 in the morning, that brings about a release of cortisol.

Hows your exercise regimen and diet? Do you take brisk walks everyday and have a diet full of vegetables and fruit with dairy? Activities such as Yoga and tai chi would do you some good. How's your spiritual life? Do you meditate and have moments of peaceful silent contemplations before going to sleep? Try reading a novel or two. But it really boils down to diet and exercise and filling your days with productive activities to get you going.

This is the type of input you'll see throughout the internet.

I'd like to see if there are any more folks on here who have this type of insomnia. As the brain ages, it tends to produce less melatonin. Something like a relatively minor blood sugar/cortisol dis-regulation can cause insomnia.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

Maybe listen to this song and you'll know what to do...

"And at the count of 3, I pull back the duvet,
Make my way to the re-friger-ator...
One dry potato inside...
No lie...
Not even bread, jam...
Then the light above my head went BAM!
I can't sleep...
Something's all over me...
Greasy insomnia, pleas release me...
And let me dream about making mad love on the heath...
Tearin' off tights with my teeth...
But there's no relief, I'm wide awake...
In my kitchen, it's black and I'm lonely...
Oh, If I could only get some sleep...
Creaky noises make my skin creep...
I need to get some sleep...
I can't get no sleep..."

And you definitely ain't getting no sleep once those church bells end, that synth riff kicks in and that banging beat comes back to kick off dance floor hysteria.

I'd suggest you have more than one dry potato in your fridge and also don't have a single light in the kitchen that can go out and leave you all alone in the dark.

Terminal insomnia can stem from a disrupted circadian rhythm, your body’s internal clock. Irregular sleep, late-night screen use, and lack of morning sunlight can cause early cortisol spikes. To reset, get morning sunlight daily, avoid blue light before bed, and keep a consistent sleep schedule. These simple habits can help realign your rhythm and improve sleep quality.

Plinco I'm not a doctor. I do suffer from restless legs and tend to be up & down most nights between my legs bothering me and bathroom trips. But here's what I would do:

1. Eat a relatively late meal with a quinoa/lentil bowl with chia seeds and avocado. Drink some Kava warm tea with it. Those foods are slow release good protien/fat/complex carb and low glycemic index. Kava tea is a mild nerve relaxer. Should help stabilize blood sugar.

2. At least an hour before bed practice good sleep hygiene. Turn off TV, cell phone, computer. This allows your brain to settle.

3. Right before bed hydrate with water and take a supplement to reduce cortisol. I take something called "Cortisol Manager". I find it helps me sleep better.

4. Maybe consider melatonin supplement.

5. If you have a regular sexual partner, have some sex and climax. The hormones involved will help you sleep.

6. Another good natural nerve relaxer is passionfruit leaves. I used to grow the vines in my backyard (they bloom beautiful flowers) and would eat one or two leaves before bed if really stressed. They are relaxing similarly to CBD, although the phytochemicals are different. Not sure where you live but right off the vine is most effective in my experience.

Our bodies are all a little different. Hope some of that is helpful.

haha I actually happen to like that song. I haven't heard it in years though.

When I was single (before I met my wife), around when I was 34, I regularly went to bed around 03:00 AM and used to get up around 08:00 AM, I used to be overstimulated by staying late playing games, reading books or watching movies (being f-tired after providing services for 8-12 hours). I started sleeping like a healthy person when I felt stable about my job and in my personal life as well - I had poor sleeping habits since I was 20 or so, so it makes 15 years of poor quality of sleep.

So I think both stable job and stable female at your side may actually prolong your life lol

But going to more practical advice:
- practice walking 20 mins per day after work (each day)
- do 20 mins of calisthenics after walking (my recommendation would be as much 20-push ups series as you can do in 10 mins plus some stretching, do some lunges, squats)
- do not eat a lot of sweets before sleep (they are responsible for nightmares due to drop in sugar few to several hours after going to bed)
- do not use TV/laptop/smartphone before sleep
- read something mildy interesting before sleep (I prefer to read history books - I love them but they make me sleepy quickly in spite of that I really consider them great read - just not necessarily before sleep)
- do not think about anything negative before sleep
- try to create some safe-haven in your mind, imagine something that gives you feeling of safety - when I am stressed out I think about persons close to me - I see my closest family members together with me on a green hill in a late spring day, we are just there together, happy and content about ourselves and world around us - I like to imagine the smell of flowers and perfect blue sky and beautiful sun - it helps me to relieve any stress I still can have which helps me fall asleep

I've tried all of that but I appreciate your input.

Having a stable job certainly lowers your cortisol.

Sex is often used as a tranquilizer for mental problems, this is especially true for men. Be careful not to fall into that trap because that will cause you to be needy for your wife and thus giving her power over you. Men ought to be solving their mental problems before sex, not using sex as a cover.

I do not mean sex - I mean that you have this basic assurance in your head that there is someone near you that is constantly interested in you and takes care of you to some degree - it is more about feeling of completeness.

Notice that this forum is full of self-empowering posts of guys that most probably from time to time go through dry spell when it comes to female interest - dry spells or break ups are stressful, they make you feel lonely and not accepted on the core level by females - if you are in LTR it's not happening, unless you suck at it and lead LTR towards break up or divorce.
