I've had insomnia for most of my adult life, and it has progressively gotten worse. I have a type of insomnia, called terminal insomnia. I'll go to sleep just fine, and then wake up three to five hours later, tired, but full of cortisol and adrenaline. I've tried everything natural to cure this, and it's not fun.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

What have tried to improve your sleep?

How old are you? I always sense the average age at this message board is around 20 years old

I've tried everything on the internet that advises on how to cure insomnia. My issue is low blood sugar around 2-3 in the morning, that brings about a release of cortisol.

Hows your exercise regimen and diet? Do you take brisk walks everyday and have a diet full of vegetables and fruit with dairy? Activities such as Yoga and tai chi would do you some good. How's your spiritual life? Do you meditate and have moments of peaceful silent contemplations before going to sleep? Try reading a novel or two. But it really boils down to diet and exercise and filling your days with productive activities to get you going.

This is the type of input you'll see throughout the internet.

I'd like to see if there are any more folks on here who have this type of insomnia. As the brain ages, it tends to produce less melatonin. Something like a relatively minor blood sugar/cortisol dis-regulation can cause insomnia.

Maybe listen to this song and you'll know what to do...

"And at the count of 3, I pull back the duvet,
Make my way to the re-friger-ator...
One dry potato inside...
No lie...
Not even bread, jam...
Then the light above my head went BAM!
I can't sleep...
Something's all over me...
Greasy insomnia, pleas release me...
And let me dream about making mad love on the heath...
Tearin' off tights with my teeth...
But there's no relief, I'm wide awake...
In my kitchen, it's black and I'm lonely...
Oh, If I could only get some sleep...
Creaky noises make my skin creep...
I need to get some sleep...
I can't get no sleep..."

And you definitely ain't getting no sleep once those church bells end, that synth riff kicks in and that banging beat comes back to kick off dance floor hysteria.

I'd suggest you have more than one dry potato in your fridge and also don't have a single light in the kitchen that can go out and leave you all alone in the dark.

Terminal insomnia can stem from a disrupted circadian rhythm, your body’s internal clock. Irregular sleep, late-night screen use, and lack of morning sunlight can cause early cortisol spikes. To reset, get morning sunlight daily, avoid blue light before bed, and keep a consistent sleep schedule. These simple habits can help realign your rhythm and improve sleep quality.

Plinco I'm not a doctor. I do suffer from restless legs and tend to be up & down most nights between my legs bothering me and bathroom trips. But here's what I would do:

1. Eat a relatively late meal with a quinoa/lentil bowl with chia seeds and avocado. Drink some Kava warm tea with it. Those foods are slow release good protien/fat/complex carb and low glycemic index. Kava tea is a mild nerve relaxer. Should help stabilize blood sugar.

2. At least an hour before bed practice good sleep hygiene. Turn off TV, cell phone, computer. This allows your brain to settle.

3. Right before bed hydrate with water and take a supplement to reduce cortisol. I take something called "Cortisol Manager". I find it helps me sleep better.

4. Maybe consider melatonin supplement.

5. If you have a regular sexual partner, have some sex and climax. The hormones involved will help you sleep.

6. Another good natural nerve relaxer is passionfruit leaves. I used to grow the vines in my backyard (they bloom beautiful flowers) and would eat one or two leaves before bed if really stressed. They are relaxing similarly to CBD, although the phytochemicals are different. Not sure where you live but right off the vine is most effective in my experience.

Our bodies are all a little different. Hope some of that is helpful.
