pretty good, the compression is a little high on an lt1 tho. look into the motor they aren't good for turboing. You might wanna looki into a 5.3 from a silverado or a 6.0 from a caddy. The crank and rods are good stock till bout 600hp. go to turbobuick.com and look under the v8 swap forums. alot of turboed v8. What are you gonna do with your vg30dett?

My friends 300zx twin turbo can put down around 675rwhp.
I bet he has a boost controller and upgraded turbos. That sounds like a badass car.

I chose the V8 route due to the low-end torque and the power band. The hp numbers can be deceptive - they are only at top rpms. Before the turbo spools, the 300Z is Honda Civic-slow. Then the turbo kicks in like a rocket. The V8 is faster off the line and probably stoplight-to-stoplight faster. The high-boost turbo car will take the V8 on the highway, though, I concede. I picked the V8 for the reliability and cheapness of parts as well. Turbo stuff gets crazy expensive. You have to upgrade engine internals to handle the higher boost. Despite all of this, I still like turbo cars! I may (someday) turbo the LT1 in the Z with a rear-mount twin turbo kit.

They aren't perfect for a turbo setup, I agree, but it will still be a badass car without the turbo. The LT1 is barely gonna fit in this car. The tranny tunnel has to be re-fab'd and the firewall pushed back. It is a huge job.

Turbo'ing the LT1 is still an option:

But it is a lot of money for not a giant gain.

The Z's engine has been removed. I have no plans for it. Do you want to buy it? I just want rid of it, so I would sell it for cheap. I'm probably a thousand miles away so shipping is the issue.

I prefer to keep the extra money I have in my 401k. I drive a $3,000 car. Go ahead and get a loan on a 30k+ car that can get to the same place mine can. I'm curious as to what some of your retirement plans are.

I'll have my house paid off by 32.

I plan on living it up when I'm younger. Youth may be wasted on the young, but wealth is wasted on the old.

hes got more then upgraded turbos and he doesn't have a boost controller. the engines completely built up, the ecu isnt factory its standalone, the turbos have no problem spooling at all its just that the cars tires spin all the way up to 3rd gear. its basically a highway only car.

Do you know what upgrades he has done to the rear end/axle/drive train? I am going to have to replace a lot of the Nissan factory stuff. The V8 torque hits right off the line, and will just start snapping Nissan parts. Traction and getting power to the ground become issues, like you pointed out. As an example, drag radials usually take at least a full second off 1/4 mi times. I have seen Vipers put up crappy times because they are so traction-impaired with stock tires.

Then the stress must be in torque applied from a stop. That's where drag cars usually break, is in launching. I know a V8 in the Z will break the rear-end without upgrades. Even doubling hp with a turbo upgrade does not place the same stress on these parts. It's something about the physics of launching from a stop and low-end torque versus peak hp.

the stock Z rear and suspension will be fine. for a stock lt1 or ls1. remember the vg30dett makes more hp than an lt1 does stock. The independant rear suspension isn't ideal for drag racing but its good for everything else. check this site out pimpin www.hybridz.org pm me what you want for the motor. also. the z is a top end car, due to the cam duration, rear end gearing and tranny gear ratios. My car makes boost @ 1500 rpms, where as the Z makes it a little higher up.

Womens can be quite confusing in their preference for vehicles. My ex thinks my 96 Crown Vic PI is a much hotter car than my old 86 Mustang GT, even though the stang was faster, more fun, better looking (in my eyes), and basically better in all terms except trunk space.

When it comes down to it, get a vehicle you enjoy. If it makes you feel good, the confidence gain will get you farther than any ferrari or lamborghini.
