Any Jaguar Car Drivers?

None of that is true - and I know, I've driven a Jaguar for many years, and a Mercedes before that.

Jaguar got a bad reputation when British Leyland took them over in the 1970s. Things have changed greatly over time though and most of the running gear isn't company specific nowadays either.

The gear box is the same one as goes in equivalent Mercedes, the engine is basically Ford. So they're as reliable as most other cars - apart from Japanese stuff which is more reliable than any European car.

Well perhaps reliability wise...it says they are average reliability in the latest rankings, but maintenance wise they are definitely more expensive.

Just because you lucked out and got one that may not have many issues doesn't mean others are as lucky.

Repair and maintenance I've not found particularly expensive TBH, but I've got a good independent specialist nearby. I'm in the UK though and I accept costs might be higher in the US or elsewhere as Jaguars are less commonplace there.

Rarely go to the dealership. There's a reason why dealerships are considered stealerships, and the car salesman is considered one of the lowest trustworthy jobs in the workforce.

How do you know a car dealer's salesman is lying? Their lips are moving.

Last truck I bought was in 2014 and it's maintained well by a local and seasoned mechanic. Never lease; always purchase for cash or 0.00% (yes, they are still around). If you have your own company, then you can completely write the vehicle off. I believe it has to be over 6000 lbs and some other requirements. It's been a while since I've done so, so some of the rules may have changed. Here's a link to the IRS's web site if anyone is interested.

Well...it was rated 29th out of 32 brands so that isn't exactly true...it received a 2.5/5.0 for reliability score, which still ranks as average, based on is being at the 50% line but 28 other brands were more reliable and only 3 were worse.

Also the repair costs are more than double the average cost for car repairs in a year, so that is an issue as well.

Maybe it's different in the UK but I know for a fact Jaguars are more expensive to work on in the US.

However...the song "Knights of the Jaguar" was a closely guarded White Label secret of mine in the clubs for a few years so at least there is that ..

No thanks. Amazing how this is a "badge of honor" with cars but in anything else they would be out of business. Imagine if that was the case with your wireless internet or phone service.

They don't break down a lot. No car does nowadays comapred to the 1970s and 1980s. Mine's never broken down and I've had it nearly 10 years now. My Mercedes did though, that's why I got rid of it.

Either way, if reliability is your only criteria you need a Japanese car. In fact, they're all that woud exist according to that logic.

ps. My internet has failed maybe 3 or 4 times in the last year actually. My car hasn't - and it's a Jaguar.

Yep. Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Lexus all Japanese, all very reliable, all leave me cold. But you need to buy one of those if reliability is your no. 1 priority.

Nice Motor and such low mileage!...Suggests to me a careful previous owner...Gold for you!...May I suggest you insist on Synthetic or Semi Synthetic Oils,if the seals aren't leaking,reduces wear...Also change the Oil filter every Oil Change.

Leaving that aside, the twin turbos on my Jaguar are still going strong at 135,000 miles.

I paid 18 grand for a 16 plate BMW.

It had'nt been serviced for a couple years, so my dad told me to ask Dealer to service it before i drove it away. Dealer cam back and told me that had found a 'problem' while doing service.

Heard nothing for a week, so went in and asked for my money back.
