I don't understand why people get so worked up over the green dots. I figure that by the time anyone gets 1,000 posts or so, they're going to have the maximum number of dots. So mainly to me it just says the poster has been on the forum for awhile. Also, it seems like people who make a lot of outrageous statements get a lot of dots quickly, lol.

That said, is there any comprehensive explanation somewhere for how the dots system works? Like I get a white or gray dot once in a while, what is that? And how many reps do I have to give out before I can give someone rep again? That sort of thing. I'd like to see a detailed explanation of the whole system. Does such a thing exist? And if so, where is it?

Too many questions. ;)

I actually used to know most of the answers, but I forget. The dark dot means that the person has the dot rating turned off. The dots have nothing to do with the number of posts. It's all rep from other users. I don't know how many rep points one has to give out in order to give a person a second rep. Any other mods want to fill in the blanks?

Looks like I can't make the change stick.

You're going to have to live with your dots.

I think it is a better place.

Those complaining about trolls (myself at times) don't remember either the dozens of trolls in the Health and Fitness section or the crazy dude Ddree or whatever his name was in the Anything Else section, or the dozens of other people trolling in the regular section. Even back then posters didn't make much content, it's just that a lot of good content accumulates over the years and looking back using search or the DJ Bible there is a bias that the past contained all the golden days.

Also experienced members were always leaving. By the time I joined Victory Unlimited and the old crew started posting scarcely. Pook and Anti-Dump were LONG gone. Then the Karma Sutra guy got married, jophil died, a few people got banned, squirrels disappeared for some reason, Rollo Tomassi posts once in a blue moon, backbreaker left and came back like 5 times. I bet most people don't remember Warboss Alex of the health and fitness section, the last time Quicksilver made a non-vault post, or the dudes that used to frequent it that rarely go on now like CarlitosWay and Fuglydude who only go on once in a while. So on. A lot of new blood comes in as well. Fact is this board is made of people from the world, and as such we tend to have lives and eventually we will go too.

However, I would like to give a great thanks to the moderators who compiled the DJ Bible, The Vault, and the Book of Pook. Just because an old member leaves doesn't mean their advice is gone. Fact is, for just about any topic you can find help in those three compilations or the search function.

There is little new content because there is only so much you can rebrand the same content. Push-pull, hot-cold, dread game are basically variants with the same underlying principle. Be more confident, be more sexual, be more alpha is the same sh!t we've seen over the years, once again variants of each other. Pretend you are a little boy at the play ground game, ****y and funny game, neg game SAME. EXACT. SH!T. once again variants of the same principle.

That's why there is no new content. There hasn't been in quite a long time. Once we've been here long enough to absorb all the principles, all there is left to do is apply them and that's 100% up to ourselves. We are eating the same sandwich, just today we are eating it with blue cheese and mayo while yesterday we put sweet onion sauce on it. Your sauce is going to change, the underlying meat, cheese and bread never do. Would you like to add chips and drinks to make it a meal?

Do you ever wonder why the manosphere at large turned into a drama/news/outrage factory? Because those blog owners want to make money. Yet there is no new content. So you get sh!tty articles like the ones returnofkings: "How much is your cost per orgasm?" "Did OKCupid's Experiments Increase the Likelihood of Rape?" "10 Tips for finding a quality Filipina online".

Those are actual article titles. Yeah, once in a while they have good material, but it doesn't change what they are: the male version of Cosmo magazine; mindless entertainment. SoSuave is slow-paced because So-Suave isn't a content generating bullish!t machine and I am proud of that. You want B.S. content the majority of the manosphere exists to fulfill that purpose.

STR8UP's gone, Francisco D'Anconia's not around... *sigh* V.U. and some others went off to another site, after being discouraged by the tips-and-tricks sort of junk masculinity, if memory serves... I guess I could re-read some old PM's if it mattered.

Wyldefire?

It's funny, I realize now that I should've been more active in the Wingman Forum. A dude from my gamer days popped in after a search for my username wondering what ever became of me. It got me thinking. I kind of felt shi++y when I remembered I spent hours and hours chatting with him and my "clan" on battlecom (voice link). I ficking knew those guys. Hell, met one of them in St. Louis, MO... "Mr. Serious". I knew his kids' names! Then later met "Froggy" out in San Luis Obisbo, CA. I know Puntangerang is up in the twin cities area, which I'm close to now. I know his brother's name FFS. Francisco D'Anconia is up there, too, last I knew. Life gets in the way sometimes, huh?

Anyway, when the ƒuckwits move in and start posting 'millenial' style "help me, I refuse to help myself by bootcamping and bible reading, just give me the answer so I don't have to think beyond the question" crap, it frustrates the community... the community of guys that know each other but never meet due to a physical location issue. It's tough to have decent dude friends with all the douchebaggotry so rampant, so a like-minded internet community has a valuable esprit de corps. That value is diminished by the spectrum of trolls with who knows what personality disorders and who knows what between their legs. If the frustration comes from a site, well, folks simply avoid the site. Or, asked to be banned to cut themselves off from spending so much time smoking the internet crack. (That's why many good posts are by banned members, PairPlusRoyalFlush. Many have ASKED to be banned; I've considered it, too.)

I've moderated with some intelligent folks before, and, it was agreed that more moderation means more coverage (more fingers on the "delete" button, and more patience). BUT, those particular forums democratically elected it's moderators via a poll. For example, a thread in the moderators area titled: "( . )( . ) as moderator?" Then a yes/no vote poll. Simple. If agreed, ( . )( . ) would get a PM asking if he was interested in the responsibility. Then, clickety-click, *poof*

( . )( . )
Moderator
**************

:)p I feelz glad you're still around, boob dude.)

Maybe that's already how it's done here. *shrug*

Consider this: if a forum is plagued, how much "harm" could a few "bad" moderators do if there was an army of them? If this place elected moderators based on whether or not they "get it", then, having the title "Moderator" under their name would not only "Give them a fine reputation to live up to", but also the site would retain more of the "doctors", as PokerStar put it. The "badness" would be far-outweighed by the goodness, so far as I see. Would over-moderation be any worse than under-moderation?

Wouldn't it be sweet as hell if an old schooler like Señor Fingers got on and started clicking "delete" on negativity?

Pook: "Wow, after coming back from months..." *click* *click*
Karma Sutra: *click* "I hear ya... who let all these women in here?" *click* "Better."
Pook: *click-clickety-click* "...yup. Shaping up nicely." *click*

 That's all I have to say about that. G'night.

Really, I only had one question. Which was if there was a section on this forum or somewhere else that comprehensively explained how the rep point system worked. From the sound of it, no such article exists.

The white or gray dot I was talking about is on my "User CP" page. I have a feeling it marks a number, like every 10 or 20 rep points is gray instead of green or whatever.

Yeah I know, just kidding.

We had a discussion about this in the mods corner. The dark dots mean that the giver of the points has his own rating system turned off.

Okay, you're saying the dark dots are what I called gray dots. And you only had to tell me twice before I caught on.

We were discussing in the mods corner whether the dark dots are gray or blue! Seriously.

There were a few times when I thought the dark dot people were giving me neg reps and I would PM asking why the neg rep as I could see no reason. They would always reply they gave me a plus rep but put nothing in the comments. Later I figured out that these people had the rep system turned off on their accounts.

The lighter ones I forget what they mean. If I'm not mistaken I think they go red if it's negative.

In fact, do me a favor and neg rep me. I want to see what happens. I won't hold it against you. ;)

I believe the lighters ones are from posters that don't have any rep points of their own. I assumed it means they don't count. A safeguard against people creating accounts and repping themselves.

And being here since 2012 means you can call him out for making a very valid point? Midnight said something very correct about how most relationship/dating forums and their members tend to operate; people come and go, and there will always be noobies trying to prove themselves.
Today's veterans are yesterday's noobs. What's your point?

Wow, you've never been neg repped before? I've had a few. I think the dots are red, or maybe black, instead of green. I can't remember which.

Green dots are positive reps. Reps from posters with higher rep counts carry more weight, i.e. they will increase your reputation more. If myself or Atom Smasher for example reps a noob, they will get a new visible block automatically under their name.

Grey dots are neutral, meaning the user does not have sufficient post count or reputation to affect your rep score.

Red dots are obviously bad, and detract from your total rep score. Same thing applies with weighting.

Rep score does not "top out", but the green dots under your name do. I think they stop at 11.

Okay, that's interesting, but WHERE are you getting this information? Do you mods get a secret handbook on how the rep system works? And if so, why doesn't Atom Smasher have it?

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

empiricism/Experience:

grey/blue dots are always from noobs with little to no rep.
red dots are usually accompanied by an insult
there is no member here with more than 11 green dots.

Edit: my favorite color is "black", actually. Yes, Yes... my "favorite color" is the "void of color". Virtually, however, purple smells like cowbell. Tunk, Tunk, Tunk, Tunka, Tunka, tunk, tunk, tunk... {COLOR="Indigo"}:rock:{/COLOR}
