Do you know how big of a pain in the ass it is to delete individual posts? Oh wait, you don't, so please don't suggest things you don't understand.

What makes you assume I don't?

I was a moderator on a big forum once, it has almost as many members as this site, for about 6 months straight.

It's just a click of a button, and that's why there are about 4 moderators for every forum. So if every moderator deleted 1/4 of those posts, it would be a better place.

But hey, moderators are also the ones involved in those posts, you can't solve the problem when you're part of it.

Uhm no its not?

Plus theres always the fact that not all posts are completely derailing the threads, some are involved with the original topic. If we close them we'll get b*tched at, If we leave them open, we get b*tched at.

I love it how people decided they know how to do our jobs for us though.

Vincent...it's okay to remove off topic posts from threads in any of the specific topic related forums...especially if it gets out of hand. It's not hard to do, but you would need the help of the members to find them all. If you ask people to report the off topic posts that derail a thread then it will be easy to find them and not much work at all to delete them. "Anything Else" should be the exception, however, because that is the one area that has always been pretty laid back and where people can just post things not related to the site subject matter.

There is a difference between justifiable deletions and uncalled for "overzealous" censorship.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

Go check my last hundred or so posts, your idea is OLD! :D

Find the one where I suggested him to commit suicide, that was pretty funny.

Frankly that line is to small and insignigicant for me to dwell over.

If a thread has been derailed, I will close it. 'nuff said.

Vincent, that's the wrong attitude to have. Some of the best threads with the most to gain from are the most controversial ones. By closing threads you give trolls all the power. For as long as this site has existed there have been groups of women from feminist sites and other boards who have come here to troll and disrupt. You can't allow trolls and badly behaved people to control the content available to the people who come to this site to get help. This is part of the reason I've been so vocal about censorship. Most of the problems that arise for the moderators are caused by trolls (often women from other sites) who want nothing more than to see this site fall into ruin. Don't be their tool.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at.

But apparently, Sir Arrogant Vincent doesn't want people like us telling him how to do his job.

I'd rather not get into yet another argument about this overall issue. It's very important, though, because it has a tremendous impact on the quality of the site. And yes, I have to agree with you that SOME (not all) of the moderators are guilty of taking threads off topic as well as starting flame wars. Although I've seen Vincent argue a little bit here and there, and he made some unfair deletions, he can be reasoned with if you talk to him rationally. Unfortunately, there are some moderators who are just beyond reasoning with and only want to fight and argue rather than actually listen to valid complaints. I really don't think Vincent is one of those, at least not from what I've seen so far.

Oh. My. God.

Can't you people just live and let live? It's over! Go home! There's nothing more to discuss! Geez... Saturday night and all I see is bickering... don't you all have something more constructive you could be doing? Please don't answer that - just drop it already.

I had a reply, but I agree with diablo LET IT GO.

I'm not gonna change the way I mod unless the other mods and allen think I'm doing something terribly wrong. So quit talking about it.

Perhaps you shouldn't have volunteered to be a mod then, if you can't be arsed to actually do any work.

What the hell you talking about, I do more work than almost every mod here, except maybe eternal. Please refrain from making ignorant comments.

WesCotII - I notice that you just came and jumped into the converstation. Are you a former member here? If so, what's the old name? You say you modded at a site with as many members (give or take) as this one. I'm sure you understood how hard it was to be a mod. How many mods where there? More than sosuave? Less? If more, then remember...That meant that more mods were doing work which meant less crappy posts. There are 12 moderators on this site, but not all of them mod all the forums. Therefore, things go unnoticed. That is why "report this post to a moderator" button exists. Makes things easier so things get done quicker.

If no one here knows what it is like to mod this place, please don't tell us how to do our job. Moderators are unpaid, so don't think we are on power trips AND collecting money.

PS - Why are people whining about this on a Saturday Night? Do you people really have no life?

I'm tired to see the "same" posts over and over! Things like "****y and funny"/ "eye contact"/"she LJBFed me but says she likes me"/....

Why don't moderators redirect the person to the pas thread and close his new tread immediately? I'd be effective!

Or

The new thread should be merged with the past one!

Simple isn't?

We have this amazing tool where they can do that on their own. Its called the search feature, No one seams to use it. So a simple "Do a search, Thread closed" is far easier.
