80's music is by far the best music era ever. I could never get bored of listening to it. So many great bands. Wish they played it more at bars and clubs. Alot better than the junk we have now.

Groups from back then actually sound different from one another, they each had their own style. Nowadays you turn on the radio and it sounds like one monstrous mashup.

Thats because groups back then actually had talent.....i dont even consider rappers being "talented artists" they always talk about the same old things, money, fast cars with big rims, and women...most of them cant rhyme, except for maybe eminem.

Hey, I heard that people actually played instruments back then. Oh wait, they were considered "musicians" instead of "artists."

I remember when rappers sung about things like staying out of trouble, getting an education and going to work. Wow, have things seemed to have made an 180.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

well in the 80s there were more subcultures in society.

metal, punk, mainstream rock, hippies, goths, country, soft rock, hard rock, classical, rap, alternative, etc.

whereas today kids are all the same if you ask me - they ALL listen to pretty much the same music, dress the same way, etc.

because there is less diversity in our society, there is less diversity in the music (but who knows which came first).

btw, i love the 80s, without question the best era for music ever. songs that actually said something.

First of all, in the spirit of diplomacy, I'd like to say there are still SOME great bands and music out there these days------you just have to REALLY search for it though...

But having said that, there was a reason why they called that hallowed decade "The Big Eighties". That was a GREAT decade for multicultural/multigenre music. And I MISS it.

I would go so far as to say I haven't heard a single guitarist that is as talented as probably ANY guitarist from back in the eighties.

I knew that it was all over for hard rock/heavy metal when Nirvana came along expressly for the purpose of "outlawing" the use of the "guitar solo". Remember guitar solos? Wow...I sure miss them.

I knew that R&B/hip hop was about to take a fall when singers STOPPED singing entirely original songs-----but instead, opted to sing "new" lyrics over "older" music.

And unfortunately, I knew that Rap was about to take a nose dive when my favorite group (Public Enemy), STOPPED receiving radio airplay again.

Socially conscious (yet still SLAMMING) Rap songs were overwhelmed by corporate America's love for glorifying the more frivolous and negative sides of my community (African American). And the more knuckleheaded rappers that emerged during that time period, then and NOW, GLADLY exploit themselves AND the genre for money's sake alone.

I guess they don't call it the music "BUSINESS" for nothing, do they?

But anyway: LONG LIVE THE BIG EIGHTIES!!!!!!

Anybody know where I can buy me one of those vintage Wham sweatshirts that has "CHOOSE LIFE" written on it?

Sometimes ignorance is bliss

I willingly choose to ignore the "music" out there today. It's mind retarding and ear deafeningly rabble that has no value other than to clutter your thinking and dummy down your faculties. Other than Tool (and subsequent offshoots by the various band members) I listen solely to Boston, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Rush, 70's and 80's country music especially Hank Jr's older work which I believe is the paradigm of great country music.

The crap spouted out by MTV and VH1 will kill you faster than a bullet. The aformentioned musicians (not "artists" as Brother Victory succinctly pointed out ) could pickup a guitar or some drum sticks and create something from a dream.

Now everything is a sample of something valued because there is no originality. P Diddy can suck my c0ck.

Are you guys kidding me? Most 80's music was garbage.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I know. I have like 30-50 songs on my favorties and most of them is in the
80's. Has a fresh up-beat energy about most of that music.

This is what happens when kids grow up wanting to be like eminem and 50 cents. Each generation gets ****tier and so does the music.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

I am very diverse with my music choice I have to be since my job (DJ) requires me to play different venues and different music scenes. Personally though I'm a 70's guy. I play and listen to a lot of 80's and enjoy it but its still on the bottom of my musical list.

I'm only 22, but yeah, the 80's were pretty awesome even though I was sperm for half of it. All the metal bands were so damn awesome back then!! I even miss the 80's metal look with the tight tapered jeans, the white sneakers, and sleeveless shirts.

I think there's a lot great going on in the 90's and now...you just gotta look for it.

Immortal Technique is pretty much one of the only good rappers around these days.

Rap haters should know it wasn't always totally mindless commercialized sh!t music as back when 2pac and B.I.G were around and the G-funk sound was more popular than anything it was very much a quality musical product.

Unfortunately garbage dirty south and east side rap took over and eventually that gave way to even more and more mindless acts.

Garbage filled the power vacuum that 2pac and B.I.G's deaths left behind.

For the rest of the post I just have to say I agree with Karma.

Tool is an extremely high quality band that is still going strong today.

Quality music is harder to find these days but its there if you look.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.
