I have never been to the gym before.
Admittedly I have never needed to go because I've always been very muscular naturally.

One of my ex Gfs had a friend who wanted to be a body builder. He thought I was a regular gym goer and was shocked when I told him I had never been.
He told me (practically ordered me) to go and that I'd be HUGE if I did. But I was in an LTR with this chick and she liked me the way I was...until she left me 9 months ago.

Since joining this forum and going out into the field, I know I have the looks and the confidence to get really hot chicks.
But I need the killer body too...mostly some huge meaty arms.

So how do you go about going to the gym for the first time when you know nothing about how the machines work, what excercise you should be doing or...anything?

help.

I'm sorry but this site does not show me how to use the machines does it?
For someone with ZERO knowledge, I'm stuck, because this forum has information for people with 'some' knowledge.

what I did mate, was read a lot of posts on here, and see what people are doing. I would read about squats and deadlifts and have no idea, so just searched them in google, google image search was good, because often you would get a photo sequence.

I disagree. Theres ok info here, mostly given by mind over matter. but if you want to read good articles for a beginner, bodybuilding.com is a great.

If you dont agree with that then your just plain WRONG.

i think what he's referring to is the amount of crap you'll get here vs. the amount of crap you'll get over there.

here you get good info

there you get crap info, and some good info

good + crap < good + good.

It is not practical to keep reading stuff on here and trying to make sense of it (when I have no idea what people are talking about).

do gyms have induction sessions where someone takes you round?

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

Hey mate, I was in a simliar situation to yourself; I was doing home gym with a bar, 2 dumbell weights and a beam for chinups but you can only get so big with that, so i needed to go to a gym.
Luckily i've got 2 older brothers that are doing uni, and I went down there one day and one of them showed me how to use everything. I dont know if you have an older sibling, but if you do, ask them to go along and help you (providing they know what their doing). If not, where you pay your entry fee, the receptionest person usually usues the gym; ask her and explain your situation; your new to gyms, would like to learn how to use everything, could you please show me etc. I'm sure something like that is all that it'll take.
Those weights arnt going to teach you how to lift them! :) Goodluck with it all.

I have no siblings...so I'll ask at reception for a full tour. :woo:

All I need to do now is find a slot when I'm not actually doing something!

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

When you first join up, get an appraisel from the gym instructor. They'll draw up a programme based on your goals and show you how everything works. Getting into the gym is not as difficult as you may think.

No. BBing.com forums are full of ****, especially the teen section. The people who know what they are doing are far and few between, and many of them take steroids so their routines are useless to a natty lifter. Stay away from the forums. The main site is OK for info though.

Do what I did:

* Visit diesels guide to bulking up (sticky!) , if you don't understand what he says then read basics elsewere and come back.

* Look at the amount of sets he suggests for each body part and the exercises he vouch for.

* Go to www.exrx.net and look at how the exercises are performed. It can be a good idea to ask how deadlifts and squats are performed though.

* Go to the gym and mimic.

I understand a tiny bit, but not much at all.
Getting instruction at the gym will be a huge help to me.

When is a good time and day to go to the gym so that it's quiet so I can get the help I need?
