    To any lawyers or cops

I would do a Google search for things like "how to avoid a ticket" "how to deal with police", etc. That said, (and let me lead off by saying IANAL - I am not a lawyer)... What I've read and experienced is that in a police enounter, you have to take into account the issues of fear and ego...

    investment 10,000$

Too bad you want to exclude the stock market... buying some broad-market ETFs might not be a bad way to "buy low." Our economy has to recover eventually, it's just a matter of when. To address non-stock market investments: I've done well with an investment vehicle called "Apple...

    question for the financial heads

DonS: Although I agree with the sentiment, doesn't "catching a falling knife" refer more to selling holdings at a loss?

Why are security cameras so crappy

I think there are several reasons: Often the footage you see played back on a TV news show is at least one generation or two removed from the source recording. To save money, a lot of establishments continue to use outdated equipment, purchased and set up years ago, especially if...

How many ties do you own?

Approx. ten ties. Most are pre-tied (no, not clip-on!) so I can just slip them over my next, tighten, and be on my way.

Best piece of advice you've recieved

Well, other than the generic "work hard, and be honest" stuff that my parents, particularly my father passed along (yes, it was true and I did very well by it), one of my favorite pieces of advice is from JP Morgan (the financier, not the bank) "Think a lot, say a little, *write nothing*"...

    Benefiting from low oil/gas prices

All the talk on the business news stations is that oil and gas might get considerably lower. Worldwide demand has to pick up at some point - people keep cranking out more people. Those people want to drive cars, use plastics, etc. Fully replacing non-renewable fossil fuels with renewables...

    Hunting advice

I'm in Blake's camp on this... hunters and shooters are extremely generous and helpful with their knowledge. As for worrying about flinching, maybe put a few rounds through a .22 rimfire first before moving up to the .270 or the Remmie?

    laptop problems..

Your hard drive might be going bad... Another possibility is that the chkdsk flag is set, for no good reason, in the Registry. I did a google search for "remove chkdsk registry flag" and found a decent thread here about how to deal with this...

Anyone who lives (or have lived) in Austin Tx:

You'll get a fair amount of house for the money, if you're buying. Texas is a *very* conservative state, but Austin is a bit more "progressive." It's artsier, funkier than the rest. A friend of mine is considering moving there... he made an exploratory trip, and liked the place a lot.

    Am I boring? =O

Actually, it looks as if you have an electric jackhammer instead of a right hand. Nothing boring about that!

I'm going to save you some time: James Bond Movie

*** minor psuedo-spoilers ahead *** It really felt to me more like a generic action film than a "Bond" film, although a large-scale sequence at the end reminded me of some of the "bad guy's lair" stuff we used to see in the later Connery and most of the Moore Bond films. I like that the...

A few not so random quotes

Unrelated to each other (or previous postings) but here goes: General Patton: "A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week." Winston Churchill to a woman who rudely commented on his drunken state: "Maam, in the morning I'll be sober. But you will still...

    Black Messenger Bags

Hmmm... I don't see anything metrosexual about Jack B. with messenger bag...but maybe it's the suppressed Sig in his hands that balances off the whole look.

What are your life turning points?

Getting fired from my last corporate job. It forced me to finally go into business for myself, which I had dreamed about for a long time. I'm generally happier (although quite tired at times from long hours), and better off financially. Another turning point was when a former gf of mine...

If you could move anywhere in the USA, where would you go?

Well, thank you for answering in such an appreciative and civil way. Imagine if everyone was like this on Internet forums... it would be far more pleasant to converse with people. But more toward your point, you don't seem especially thrilled about people carrying handguns. So I have to ask...

If you could move anywhere in the USA, where would you go?

It's the principle of the thing... that if I were to live in Vermont, that the state trusts me to own and/or carry a gun. Or not own and carry one. Or many other states, but VT is one of the least restrictive. Why should I reward a state with my tax dollars that doesn't trust me with a right...

If you could move anywhere in the USA, where would you go?

Arizona - cheaper housing, warmer climate, desert scenery, gun-friendly. Vermont - beautiful scenery, friendly people, great coffee, incredibly gun-friendly. One of only three states that trust you to buy a handgun, and allow either concealed or open carry, with no permit required. Now...
