A good book I recommend that has good tips on optimism is "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff." I forgot what the author's name is though. Oh well.

focusing on the present is an essential part of Zen teaching which is all about conquering the mind.
"As A Man Thinketh" and "The Power of Now" are some excellent books that give lots of insight on how the mind works and how you can gain total control of it.

i agree. how the hell are we supposed to get naturally happy? maybe if you gave some insight on achieving that certain "natural happiness" this post would have SOME sort of worth in it.
