Have people noticed that IVF is a "thing" now in the political arena. I guess more and more women are getting older and having a hard time conceiving that they want big daddy government to pay for this (hooray, more taxes to pay for poor mistakes by ignorant people)... how times have changed :) surprise, but IVF is not a silver bullet. chances of conceiving with IVF I still low.

Life in The Post-Industrial World, where problems aren't nearly as photogenic as famine and civil war, has it's drawbacks. Namely, sh-t that's not the domain of government begins to get politicized

In Canada, the government started paying for IVF around 2022. They only cover one round of IVF and only the patients that try to conceive for a year are eligible for the procedure. Patients usually pay about 25% of the cost themselves, and they also have to pay for other things like medications. IUIs are usually paid in full by the patients or their employer’s insurance.

IVF is primarily sought by couples struggling with infertility, which affects about 1 in 6 couples. Infertility can result from various factors, including age, medical conditions such as PCOS or endometriosis in women, and male infertility factors like low sperm count or poor motility.

What I am trying to say is that couples are the typical patients seeking IVF, not just women, and typically is seen as a medical necessity to address infertility, rather than a government-supported lifestyle choice.

I don't really know much about it politically as it doesn't concern me. I suppose the reason to get gov't involved is that governments hate low birth rates and want to incentivize having kids. But that opens a whole other debate, i.e. government has inadvertently disincentivized it for decades. Government trying to solve government made problems.

The median age of women using IVF is age 35. Women aged 35-37 have a 40% chance of success. Maybe you're thinking of women past 40, who have a very low chance of it working (8%?).

Orion Taraban made the argument that innovations are responsible for the current low marriage (and birth) rates. First, the birth control pill allowed women to delay pregnancy indefinitely. And then Instagram (women getting paid) and Porn (men getting off) provided substitutes for relationships. If he's right, not only did the government not cause it, but the government hasn't figured out what to fix.

OP must likely think women are his enemy and he wants them to fail.

Yes. This is government pandering to those women who decided to focus on career rather than become a wife and mother. Now at 40, she feels she missed out and wants to unfreeze her eggs and become a mom. Not a guarantee, but big daddy government wants their vote so they put out the Kool-aid for women to drink.
