Google studied Gen Z. What they found is alarming.

"Within a week of actual research, we just threw out the term “information literacy," says Yasmin Green, Jigsaw's CEO. Gen Zers, it turns out, are "not on a linear journey to evaluate the veracity of anything." Instead, they're engaged in what the researchers call "information sensibility" — a "socially informed" practice that relies on "folk heuristics of credibility." In other words, Gen Zers know the difference between rock-solid news and AI-generated memes. They just don't care.”

Big surprise? Hardly…

They are a disaster.

The most mentally fragile generation in human history. If they were the generation that was around during the caveman days and had to go hunt and gather we would have went extinct.

In that sense, they're actually not much different from every wave of Americans in The Post-Civil Rights Era

https://glassjaw.substack.com/p/weakness-is-strength-in-propaganda Quote: "Emotion will whip data every time"

More unsettling is this demographic's enthusiasm for increasing the presence and power of the stare in our personal lives

https://www.cato.org/blog/nearly-third-gen-z-favors-home-government-surveillance-cameras-1 Quote: "However, Americans under the age of 30 stand out when it comes to 1984‐style in‐home government surveillance cameras. 3 in 10 (29 percent) Americans under 30 favor “the government installing surveillance cameras in every household” in order to “reduce domestic violence, abuse, and other illegal activity.” Support declines with age, dropping to 20 percent among 30–44 year olds and dropping considerably to 6 percent among those over the age of 45"

These tykes learned all too well from us older folks, who largely embraced The Patriot Act and veritable host of even more draconian policies in the aftermath of 9/11, all under the guise of keeping America "safe"

There is a problem with the article - it suggest a false dichotomy:

"The old guard is like: 'Yeah, but you have to care ultimately about the truth,'" Green says. "The Gen Z take is: 'You can tell me your truth and what you think is important.'" What establishes the relevance of a claim isn't some established notion of authority. It's the social signals they get from their peers.

The truth ultimately stands on its own, notwithstanding what peers *or* authority figures think. You can only suspect the author is leaning towards authority over truth when they chastise Gen Z'ers for persuing comment sections before actual articles. In the age of Deep State media, this is actually preferable, presuming you then use your own discernment to form your own views. Not too sure the author wants people using their discernment that much.

"They just read the headlines and then speed-scroll to the comments, to see what everyone else says. They're outsourcing the determination of truth and importance to like-minded, trusted influencers."

Gee, these kids are weaklings for not trusting authority when western corruption is at an all-time high, aren't they? Lolz.

Some people would argue with a fence post.

The way I interpreted it is that the gen z generation knows the difference between truth and falsehood, but choose whatever suits the current social atmosphere because they are very affected by whatever is “in” at the time. And that being socially relevant is more important to them than reality is.

Well, I'm not arguing, and in fact agree... I'd just add that what you describe there makes the younguns certifiable members of the human race. ALL of us continue to believe things we sense aren't quite so sometimes, to avoid the discomfort of uncertainty, and a large percentage of the human species chooses to go through life this way

And most folks do go along with whatever is "in" at the time, even when they covertly have questions about the party line... Doing otherwise guarantees conflict with True Believers, thus we chose to remain silent and passive

isn’t that stated about every young generation though?
Not sure but with this one it's true. Employers hate them, they "can't deal" with the stress of a 40 hour work week as they post videos about how stressed out they are while crying on Tik Tok, and have to have Mommy and Daddy call in sick for them due to mental health days, half of them are on some sort of medication due to mental health...

WTF...just an epic fail.

It's been stated about all people in The Post-Industrial World, and not without justifcation... One of the unexpected side effects of us no longer having to kill wild animals on a regular basis just to survive and the like has been that we now have the luxury of feigning and exaggerating the degree to which we're harmed by snotty remarks and mildly insensitive comments

Gen Z is shaping up to be another subpar generation, similar to Gen Y/Millennials. Millennials seemed to be the bottom of the barrel but Gen Z seems to be proving this idea wrong.

Sturgeon's law is inescapable. Of all men born in the late 1800s-early 1900s, how many were of Eisenhower, Ridgway, and Thurgood Marshall's caliber? Relatively few

It seems as if it’s an American focus study but doesn’t seem to clarify that. I don’t find the information surprising though. Social media is really terrible. I got rid of mine and will not maintain a serious relationship with anyone who has it or isn’t willing to axe it upon the development of the relationship. My kids will not be using it. I have clients who specialize in social media influence and they’re on record in major public forums expressing that social media is really bad. The human brain was essentially hacked by Instagram.

If you move with the mob, you have to believe what the mob believes. Don't move with the mob.
Well, it's actually a law of power.

Law 38: Think As You Like But Behave Like Others

"If you make a show of going against the times, flaunting your unconventional ideas and unorthodox ways, people will think that you only want attention and that you look down upon them. They will find a way to punish you for making them feel inferior. It is far safer to blend in and nurture the common touch. Share your originality only with tolerant friends and those who are sure to appreciate your uniqueness."

"Wise and clever people learn early on that they can display conventional behavior and mouth conventional ideas without having to believe in them. The power these people gain from blending in is that of being left alone to have the thoughts they want to have, and to express them to the people they want to express them to, without suffering social isolation or ostracism. Once they have established themselves in a position of power, they can try to convince a wider circle of the correctness of their ideas -- perhaps working indirectly, using Campanella's strategies of irony and insinuation."

I agree except for the mouthing of conventional ideas. I think it's enough to not protest other people's inanities. If you don't publicly challenge people's beliefs, you can move alongside the mob, giving them the impression you're not so different by just allowing them to speak their ignorant opinions and badly researched 'facts' without your resistance. When the mob doesn't have to defend their opinions to you, they will mostly leave you alone.

If you breathe contrary opinions into society, it may not seem much then but someone will remember and it will come back at inopportune times haunt you when it suits someone. Keep your contrary beliefs to those closest to you.

Exactly. Don't share if it goes over the heads of the mouth breathers.

I've got a gen Z niece. Her and her friends think just like the article pointed out. They are such a confused group. No room for differences. IF you don't subscribe to their version of their own "group think" misconstrued/delusional truth's where there are no facts then they get mad. Worst generation I've ever seen.

My niece and her friends think a male is not necessary for a female to make a baby. It gets pretty sketchy when they try and explain that.

Gen Z reminds me of Dr. Fauci.

They're the teeny bopper equivalent of card carrying Red Pillers on The Manosphere
