Case in point... That second article linked

She writes: "By dressing in order to impress men, you’ll never find the gentlemen most ladies desire."

She doesn't understand the lyrics, which are primarily a submissive woman wanting to look desirable to her man. She's not looking to impress men, but impressing her man.

Stripping seductively for your spouse doesn't mean you want to work in a strip club.

Especially the part where SG mentions the clothes coming off, and still looking scrumptious for her man  :p

I remember from decades ago how a woman who just wanted to be a housewife was lambasted by a group of feminists about wanting to 'sit at home and take care of the kids' was not what they (the feminists) had fought for.
One shudders to imagine the meltdown that would occur today, if an up and coming pop princess released a song like

Even though this is clearly NOT a celebration of domestic violence

Or reality, for that matter... Those who devote minimal-no effort towards their appearance won't be attracting anything, except whatever is lurking at the bottom of the barrel. That saying as much* ("Your chances of not just finding a high-quality mate but being treated with respect and dignity by the world at large, increase dramatically, when you're well-kempt") out loud has now become a stoning offense shows how far upside down our society has turned since the late 2000s-15

The world we inhabit today might as well be a separate dimension from the one in which series like Mad Men and Gossip Girl were feted, and the lifestyles depicted therein were considered what was most desirable

*Though as stated prior, women taking pains to look and be sexy for their men, and "showing everyone how proud she is to be his" isn't especially stigmatized among Hispanics, the tribe from which Gomez happens to hail

Hell, as a child of recent-ish immigrants to The US myself, I've noticed: It's mostly upper class Whites who find this particular talking point("Be conscious of your appearance. Only animals walk around looking bedraggled") controversial. Among every other demographic in America, this is largely considered self-evident

This dude

Clearly has an affinity for attracting the most achingly scrumptious ladies. Dunno how well he'd acquit himself in the action sequences though
Notice how quickly they get away from him at the end

I reckon sometimes you're just screwed from the get go

But if he pretended to be a millionaire, with a camera crew following him around...

Changed the frame

In '93, it wasn't a capital offense for gals themselves to provide fellas with counsel such as 32:40-35:00

Today, that'd get a reception similar to the lyrics for Good For You, perhaps even induce screeches of "They're infected with Internalized Misogyny, which is leading them to instill in this guy the ideals of Rape Culture"
