So you are at MENSA that is awesome. Maybe some members hava a chip on their shoulder and migh be to focused on even getting more smarter so social skills get worse. If they might focus on social skills they may get better at it but may diminish in other areas slightly.
I'm not 'at MENSA', but my (now ex-)wife was and they have 'family weekends' where our children would meet other children. I would trail along, but I didn't care much for people who don't understand that a high IQ is like an empty measuring glass, an indication of mental capacity, not of intelligence.

Before my son could be tested, my wife wanted me to take the tests because she thought that if I had a high IQ as well (hers is in the 140s), the chances of our son being 'gifted' were bigger...

I never took any tests and since my divorce I no longer need to go to those boring self-congratulating events.

1). Lack of Luck/Opportunities or having a lot of negative life outcomes prevent them from springing forward

The Movie Pursuit of Happyness highlights an intelligent person born in the wrong circumstance that needs luck and opportunities to go his way. Fortunately, they do. 12 years a slave is another example. The guy is clearly gifted in intelligence but was born in the US during slavery and gets kidnapped by slave catchers.

2). Poor Work Ethic/Lethargic mindset- This prevents a person from capitalizing on the luck/opportunities that do present themselves and puts him or her in to lesser situations.

The Movie Office Space is a good example of a smart person in a lethargic position because of poor work ethic or laziness lol. Lip from Shameless is a mix of number 2 and 3, really smart but not motivated at all due to poverty and being complacent. Piggybacking to The Pursuit of Happyness, if the main character lacked the work ethic and motivation to get out of his situation, he would have just been a poor person with high IQ.

3). Bad Environments- Self-explanatory

Again, high IQ doesn't equate to being a GOD.
Wrong. There is no luck in life. People make their own luck. The people who seemingly had something happen out of nowhere that gives them their big break are usually the ones who have been working tirelessly at it for years without seeing any results but kept going and kept believing in themselves.

Those are the people who never went out to the clubs or parties on the weekend because they were too busy working on their craft and getting better at it. Nobody saw all that hard work, they just saw them struggling to make ends meet and then thought they "got lucky".

Everyone wants to be at the top but nobody wants to put in the work it takes to get there. No different than all the people taking these weight loss drugs because they can't discipline themselves to eat properly and workout properly.

People make their own path in life and your mindset plays the biggest role in what path that will be.

Funny you watched the Pursuit of Happiness and you thought it was "luck" instead of him busting his ass. While the other people were wasting time BSing at the water-cooler and going on hour+ lunch breaks every day, he was sitting at his desk never even putting the phone down calling people all day every day. But yeah...that was luck. You just don't get it and likely never will. This conversation is pointless to have with you.

You wouldn't understand that because you've never worked that hard a day in your life so you don't even know how to go about it.

People like you disgust me with your bull****!t excuses. When things go bad, don't take responsibility, just make excuses...it's got to be someone or something else responsible because it could never be the person standing in the mirror responsible for the shortcomings.

You can try and make up stories and lie to everyone else, but you can't lie to yourself.

Mine is anywhere between 110-120, depends on the test and the day. But the IQ testing is specifically oriented on how good you are at quickly solving logic problems and how you can do it quickly. It has nothing to do with common sense. In fact, many people who are really smart are quite gullible and easily influenced.

I see. On paper a high IQ guy should be able to be much quicker to accomplish the bucket lists like being financially independent. Do all kinds of self improvement levels like Joe Rogan. Doing ice bath and al that stuff but I guess most high IQ guys do not need that stuff anyway as they solve problems easily as they come I guess.
IQ does not correlate with being able to achieve bucket lists, if you don't have high levels of determination, or if you have ADHD, then you're not going to become financially independent.

It's also not possible to improve IQ in any significant way, you're stuck with what you have. This has pretty much been proven by head start programs.

Mental capacity sound nice to me. I feel like that may make life a bit easier.

Nobody thinks high IQ is God level. For me high IQ is like a normal dude vs some 60 IQ guy.. High IQ guy is still basically a chimp but much better than the 60 IQ dude. The high IQ guy plays life basically in easy mode compared to the 60 guy. There are obviously exceptions but many high IQ guys had LUCK that they have high IQ. That is luck in itself. It is like born with money.

Nobody said that IQ can be raised fundamentally. Though it can be lowered I guess. I am not talking about high IQ guys with special 'defects'. I guess there are also lots of high IQ guys who are quite normal. All things being equal they should have much more success than a normal dude.

To believe there is no luck in life can be reasonable belief but philosophically speaking there is not a subject. What is an 'I' anyway? Where does our will come from? One can argue that life is deterministic and we are a result of evolution. There is a variety among men due to mutation. Nothing is 'really' self made of cours in normal life we act like we are a free agent but really we are not.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I firmly believe that luck exists and that hard work and motivation enable individuals to capitalize on it. Anecdotally, I greatly benefited from the pandemic, which opened the path to my current position. I dedicated five years of hard work with little to show for it, and the pandemic finally afforded me the opportunity to advance in life. Returning to the topic of athletics, luck plays a significant role, in addition to being born with genetic gifts for sports. External factors such as injury and health, team support, placement on the right team with compatible chemistry and coaching, timing, and more, are all elements beyond one's full control.

Those are the people who never went out to the clubs or parties on the weekend because they were too busy working on their craft and getting better at it. Nobody saw all that hard work, they just saw them struggling to make ends meet and then thought they "got lucky".
I never said they got lucky, they worked hard to get where they are at.

I do not disagree with you on this

He was at the cusp of Murphy's Law literally screwing over everything for him, but it did not happen. For example, what if that firm required a 4-year degree to even apply for the internship he participated in? What if health issues occurred during his struggles? Dire situations that can stem from being homeless?

You wouldn't understand that because you've never worked that hard a day in your life so you don't even know how to go about it.

I do not know who you are talking or referring to? I have worked hard for everything I have achieved today. Again, I am in sales just like you.

I think you are looking at High IQ from an inferiority complex. It is not on easy mode for most high IQ people. Unless you are Big Bang Theory type of smart person that fits in better with normies, a lot of smart people can easily be labeled as heretics by society which can lead to mental health issues, loneliness, and etc. I am almost 30 and I personally knew three highly intelligent men that committed suicide in their early twenties. There are pros and cons for each level of IQ, so it is mainly how you use it to your advantage. I can list plenty of advantages low IQ people have over high IQ people.

I am not shure about what you say. There is a chance that intelligent people like to look stupid sometimes because normal people have envy and are jelous.

It might be like with rich people. Many times you would not know if someone is rich or wealthy because they don't want to be known as rich.

Edit 1

Having joined, I kept it quiet for a while. I knew there were predators hiding in the grass - I’d been one. And I know a lot of nice, very smart people from Mensa who keep it quiet from colleagues and even family, because the social stigma around high IQ societies are so strong.

Everybody? lol

Could be due to various reasons maybe some of them are socially awkward and just dont like their personality or they just cant get along with them due to their high iq. I can sometimes get annoyed with few People here who just dont get it, you have to explain them every single shvt so they get it and even then they dont get it most of the time, particularly when it comes to science.
It would be the same with someone who has an iq of 200 who gets annoyed with someone who has an iq of 130. Minority are gifted so it can happen that they get ostracized due to these differences by average intelligent People.

High IQ life is a struggle to convince others you have value to offer, because they're not bright enough to recognize it.

It is far more profitable to be a great salesman than a genius.

For reference:

Your standard IQ test is centered around a humdrum average of 100. Anything north of 130 is labeled "very superior," which already sounds like an over-the-top superhero title. Then there are the scores in the 145 or 160 range that get slapped with the "genius" label—as if intelligence could be reduced to a single, glitzy number. A high IQ

Einstein was 155, IIRC.

Don't get me wrong, a high IQ score is like a golden ticket to the smarty-pants club, but it doesn't make you the Wizard of Oz. There's a big difference between being "book smart" and understanding how to, let's say, avoid burning water while cooking pasta.

So, while having a high IQ may give you bragging rights at the next Mensa meeting, remember: it won't help you find your car keys when you're already 10 minutes late.

I know people who are whip-cord smart, like genius level, who cannot reason themselves out of a paper bag, are anxious and indecision-ridden, and need support staff - analysis paralysis is real. I know one guy who was a classmate of Bezos way back when at the Tute; he is demonstrably more intelligent than Bezos but with much less EQ. He has started a handful of venture-backed tech companies, taken good financing rounds, and has driven all of them into the ground, every single one. In this case, it's him believing he is superior in all ways to everyone, as he has been told he is in the decade-plus he spent at MIT and everyone kissing his ass forever. In the end? He has failed at life.

in an analysis of a nationally representative longitudinal survey of American youth, Zagorsky (2007) showed that IQ measured at youth predicts both income and wealth between the ages of 33 and 41. The median incomes and net worth at different IQ points were as follows (Table 2):

IQ test scoreMedian income (2021 dollars)Median net worth (2021 dollars)
120$48,681 ($78,587)$127,500 ($184,875)
110$40,884 ($59,282)$71,445 ($103,595)
100$36,826 ($53,398)$57,550 ($83,448)
90$30,881 ($44,777)$37,500 ($54,375)
80$18,467 ($26,777)$10,500 ($15,225)
Overall$35,918 ($52,081)$55,250 ($80,112)

@DonBig blocked me because he got emotionally triggered by the concept of calories in vs calories out in the American women weight topic on the main sub-forum. He cannot see my posts ATM. In addition, he is a Mensa member too? Further proof that high IQ doesn't mean you are God and they have flaws too.
