Today is day 15 of NOFAP, marking the longest run probably of my life so far. The previous record was about 14 days a couple of years back, and realising some of the usual benefits already. I plan to go the whole year, at least, and feeling a good rhythm already. I know what my triggers are.

Who else is in for 2021??

I read something ages ago that having no sex or fap for long periods can be damaging.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

Read up on Nofap. It's mostly pseudo broscience Youtuber bullsh!t with little to no scientific evidence supporting its purported benefits. The only study suggesting such was an experiment done in China where there was a significant spike in testosterone levels when going a week without masturbating, after which testosterone levels then returned to normal.

Routine ejaculation has actual, proven benefits for prostate health and overall well-being. Long-term abstinence is actually linked to decreased testosterone.

Excessive masturbation, especially to porn, can be harmful. Short periods of Nofap (4-7 days) can provide short-term benefits, but going a year? Scientific evidence suggests it will do more harm than good. Relieving a natural urge is perfectly natural and healthy. Not relieving it is unnatural and unhealthy. You won't hold in your sh!t for more than a week, right?

Lmao dude, if 15 days are your longest streak why delude yourself into thinking you're going to last an entire year?

It's very simple, fapping is not the problem, it's porn. There are dozens of neurological studies showing that porn causes highly detrimental changes in the brain that are identical to hardcore drug abuse. I have been saying this for almost ten years in various places and it's getting extremely tiresome. I hate the fact that people STILL get this confused. If you quit fapping but keep looking at porn you've literally accomplished nothing - you really need to make quitting porn your only goal and not worry about fapping so much. The confusion comes from the fact that almost everyone uses porn to fap now, but the most people don't see this connection for some reason.

Do people watch porn without fapping? If so I didn’t know that was a thing.

Again, like with most things, the poison is in the dose. And there is also a wide range of porn — some is pretty vanilla, some is pretty fvcked up.

I think is there such a thing as healthy porn use, and unhealthy or overuse.

For instance, in long-term monogamous relationships, where the sex has naturally grown stale or dried up, therapists will actually recommend the couple watch some porn together to liven things back up.

Me, keeping faps to 2-3 times a week, a little visual stimulation doesn’t hurt, and it can make it quick and get on with my evening.

With me, if I don't look at escort pics (aka non-nude suggestive photography which is a type of porn since its arousing), I have memories of escort ads and might feel tempted to fap to them. There are spirits that attack the mind, bring up images. This happened to me this morning, and I started fapping but stopped and asked God to forgive me for these types of thoughts and brought myself from the depths of that gutter into holy thoughts about being thankful that God that I slept well and that He saved me. I broke it before I could release.

Some of these thought that zap into your head, out of the blue, can just be very tempting and you have to jump out of the bed or do something to get your mind off of there.

Yes, that's what most people in "nofap" do, without realizing porn is the poison.

You thought wrong. There is no such thing as healthy internet porn use because internet porn essentially hijacks your brains sexual reward circuitry with instant and endless novelty. https://www.yourbrainonporn.com/research/

They're wrong too. They simply aren't aware of the latest neuroscientific research within the last decade.

My best solution in dealing with unwanted urges is more of a letting go approach. I first heard about this approach in an Alan Watts talk about taoism which he referred to as "the gentle way". These uwanted desires and urges cannot be vanquished by force but by recognizing their existence, and simply letting them die on their own. You follow your train of thought and find that eventually th

Sometimes they can be relentless, however, and even specific fantasies can stick on the mind for a long time, and I've struggled with this a lot. For some people, I can see how turning to some kind of higher power can help.

I guess you're right, though. You and the internet.

I think you should keep in mind that men are biologically wired for sexual novelty -- we are wired to spread our seed with as many new, different partners as we can get, in order to guarantee replication of our genes into future generations. Isn't that the whole point of pickup? We are not wired to remain sexually excited for a long term, monogamous partner. That is a construct of human society, not biology.

Porn exploits that excitement for novelty. But, alcohol can also exploit the pleasure feedback we get from intoxication, resulting in alcoholism. Junk food can exploit the pleasure feedback from flavor and satiety, resulting in obesity. There is such a thing as healthy (or rather, non-destructive) alcohol consumption. It's possible to enjoy fast food in moderation with no negative health consequence.

Same with porn. Spending hours on a fap session continually searching for the perfect video to bust a nut to, always clicking on the hotter girl doing nastier and more extreme things, is harmful, I'll agree with you there. But I think someone who has healthy masturbation habits can watch some porn without it hijacking his brain.

Short term no fap definitely can help you have a much better boner during sex. I can personally attest to that. Long term no fap just seems kind of silly. There's this religion out there that it gives you superpowers. If you aren't getting any pVssy though about the only thing that will accomplish is make you frustrated.

Difference is that there is a specific, dedicated circuit of the brain for sexual arousal. That makes it different from almost every other addictive behavior, except eating. There is a point where you would ask yourself what possible benefit porn is bringing you, and the answer is not a thing. I don't think it's okay to do even in moderation, it's not necessary for your survival unlike sex, food, etc. It's like saying crack is okay if don't overdo it. And btw, I do think internet porn is generally more addicting than any drug. It's available right at your fingertips. With a high speed connections you can literally buffer 50 tabs of those "perfect" clips on your browser at once.

Another datapoint:

I used to masturbate to porn almost everyday since the age of 12 to 46 regardless if I had a girlfriend or not. I only watched porn when fapping and only did it max of once a day. Never had any issues with girls or even my wife of 18 years total.

I think if you regulate yourself and also not watch that much porn, it could have minimal damage.

But I realize not everyone is built the same and people will have varying results. Do what works for you.
In the end, I agree with both @rjc149 and @FlexpertHamilton in some aspects.

I do agree that sex can be more gratifying, fulfilling, better if you don't fap too much however you break it down.

With that said, I haven't fapped for 2 full years as it gave me incentive to get me off my azz to meet and have sex with girls in real life. Luckily I haven't had a dry spell for more than a month because of this.

You could also ask what possible benefit cheeseburgers bring you, or potato chips, or whiskey -- none. The intrinsic benefits are far outweighed by the hazards. Cheeseburgers, potato chips and whiskey are unnecessary for sustenance and are all bad for your health, in any amount. But the negative health impacts of moderate consumption are negligible compared to the ancillary benefits they bring -- namely, they are pleasurable. They taste good and make you feel good. They are enjoyable.

Junk food and alcohol have utterly destroyed the lives of millions -- or is it, rather, that millions of people have destroyed their lives with junk food and alcohol?

Is porn itself a bad thing? Or is misuse of porn the bad thing?

I don't think there's anything wrong with porn, sex work, or anything in the sexual entertainment industry involving consenting adults. Interest in porn is 100% perfectly natural and human, as is the indulgence in luxuries and other pleasurable pursuits.

And no, porn is not like crack, heroin or any other chemically addictive intoxicant that destroys your body. That's a totally hyperbolic comparison.

You guys should look up the guy who created no fap, his a 200 pound neckbeard who conned millions into thinking they get super powers just by abstaining from masturbation.

Nofappers use anecdotal evidence to fuel their confirmation bias on Nofap, there is not a single real study that shows any benefit to nofap.

Masturbation is perfectly healthy and several real scientific studies show that it reduces stress and lowers tour chance if prostate cancer.

Yes because it completly kills your sex drive/libido.

Yes you're right. What they mean when they say porn is damaging is the fact that some guys are too hooked on unrealistic pornos, SM bullsh1t and don't get a touch of reality.

Most of regular pornos are legit. Heck I learned all of the poses to do with girls through porn.
