I usually do pretty well but then by the end of the week, something throws me off, and then i skip a week before working out again for like 1 or 2 days in the next week and maybe cardio 3 times that week.. and that becomes my pattern. I really want to be more consistent. I wish there was a good way to wake up and constantly be slammed by motivation and all the reasons why I need to work on myself.

If you have not read my first post on this site, i mentioned I have some excess fat around my waistline that I want to lose, and i have alot of performance anxiety and anxiety and stress related to sex because i used to watch porn for many years and masturbate a nd had a lot of failures with women.

For me getting into a better shape and improving my cardio is crucial to my success! Any suggestions?

Easier for zero off days and on many days just to make it a light work day. Zero off days makes the habit easier to maintain.

idk man, for me, it take a Long time of "consistency" to see things to start happening fast all of a sudden one week, take for instance this week - I'm down 2 lbs as of this morning to 173, the lowest I've been in half a decade, it's becoming easier cause my metabolism is subtly changing, when I was growing up I was never Fat until my early 20s (cause I was sedentary in my job, in my life outside of my job, and because of my eating of ANYTHING I wanted - all the bad stuff ice cream you name it, the bad food was cheaper too). Now I believe my metabolism is back to my teen years almost. I'm doing the same workouts but it took a Year and a couple of months to drop to my lowest weight in probably 6 years.

My first workout of the week is always my best or most motivated, the 2nd one takes more discipline because I know I won't be quite as snappy or energetic, But sometimes my body/mind surprises me and I don't know why I feel up to working out or not and until I begin working out I don't really know yet. I've probably only stopped mid-workout routine twice since August 2019 due to extreme lack of energy or sapped motivation. Once I get going I usually never stop, and I have a timer or interval timer app to keep me on course to the end so every workout is pretty much exactly the same (in time and sequence). I have to say to myself "Do I have time to complete this over the next 2-3 hours?" cause I can't be interrupted during this segment of my day due to the timer app.

Sometimes, your body needs rest and too much working out can have counter effect. I take maybe a 5 day off the gym or any other sports activity maybe 4 times a year and by the time im back in gym, im like a beast with full motivation and strenght.

Body needs more rest than you think. I take 12 planned weeks off a year (2 6-week hiatus) from training. It works wonders.

When I’m “on” it’s always 2-3 times per week. Never more than 3. My training is extremely high intensity, incorporating long sprints and heavy compound barbell weights. You have to put in both the work and the rest.

I was allways most effective when i kept fixed days for my workout/cardio. 2 days for cardio, 2 days for gym a week in whatever combo you like, one day break between trainingdays except mondays -> repeat.

Thanks everyone for the great replies. Will take all of this into consideration and not be so hard on myself for the days that I take off.

I see that you are working out, as well as going on your diet in another thread, I think @BackInTheGame78 was making reference to these two things together making it a bit scary for you.

But im glad to see you are taking steps to improve, it sounds like you are changing your life, just make sure to do it safe; I broke my gall bladder doing my own diet and it set me back almost 2 years, over a simple mistake.

You just have to stick with a routine for a time and it will become a habit.
If you want to develope discipline on something, stick with it for weeks, even months. Sometimes you have to force yourself, just not too often - half ass workouts are a waste of time, sometimes you just don't feel like working out.

When the gyms reopened, I had the same problem. I often lacked motivation but went anyways. In the end I was glad, I pushed through my laziness. I'm back at the gym since nearly four months, six times a week and I start feeling bad when I take a day off.

I like to convince myself with little logic bits. With working out you really get out what you put in(assuming you're natty). If you put in lame kipping sets with poor timing and form or skip days then you'll have lame gains...and it'll take longer... and it's more injury prone.

In fact I'm willing to argue that the degree to which you're focused on flexing the appropriate muscle group and at the right time and with the proper breath is so important to efficient and safe muscle development that it should obviously require a very large amount of your focus if not all of it.

I mean wtf are we doing here if we're not focused on lifting the weights we came into this room to lift right? If my time is valuable then I'll make damn sure that I make good use of it by commiting to a rigorous schedule.

Sometimes I'll schedule to skip a day but I'll make damn sure the workouts immediately before and after are extra tough.

If you don't skip days eventually it becomes fun to find new ways to challenge yourself. It becomes a fulfilling hobby and maybe even a way to meet other like-minded people.

Stuff like that is usually enough to keep me going.

I've forgotten to take my Krill oil for at least a couple months now. I was like wtf last night when I discovered the bottle not on the counter amongst the other bottles. I hadn't noticed the creakiness of my bones/joints assumed hey, it's just me getting older, but it was the missing Krill oil for months now, a total fvckup on my part. For 2 days now, I'm back on it. Will probably have more spring now, an egregious error (though I didn't notice a huge difference I knew something had been off over the past couple months).

There's Tyler's truth on success 1 where he goes on about rather dying then missing the gym. He's clearly fallen off since lololol but that sort of mindset is key. I lift on vaca. I meal prep. I was doing 6day a week home exercise with calisthenics. I have since adopted more weights as the gyms opened up but i am still hammering calis.

Get on a 3x a week approach. Once you have it as routine yoy can add more. Consistency is everything. Create a routine. We're creatures of habit.

You really gotta get your diet fine tuned to lose weight.

Weights and cardio are not even needed to lose weight but you will probably look better if you do both, eating more calories and burning it off from the two (cardio and weights).

I don't do weights, I'd consider pullups to be 180 lbs enough to build my back and chest/lats. I do pushup/planks that really since Aug 2019 has my arms (triceps a little too much - probably need "weights" for curls to balance out the "look" of my arms a little) looking quite cool and defined without flexing and women notice. I find running 3 to 6 miles weekly reduces weight but I haven't been able to do it for a month, just cardio HIIT routines, jumprope etc. The only thing I have problems with is my gut just a little, I mean I almost have abs due to concentrating on that for the past 2-3 months, but due to being mid-40s this mid-section and "love handles" is always stubborn. I mean, if I were to starve myself, sure, I'd not see anymore of that jiggle, but because I eat however I want (but healthily for sure), I'll always see it through most of the week, but not after working out or a day or 2 after working out. Usually by end of week I'll start seeing the handles and mid-section try to hang over. Everything else on me body is stout, tight, on point. I'm very happy with sticking to my regimen since Aug 2019 Every fookin week (except for a month when I had vein surgery on my left leg). Before Aug 2019 I hadn't stuck to Any type of regimen my entire life. Metabolism/strength certainly has changed for the better, and I'm starting my routine in 10 minutes now..

It's a pain in the as5 midway through, but here I go

I'm 47 and have a stubborn two or three pounds of abdominal fat to remove and then I'm more or less
where I want to be. Regardless, I'm in better shape now than at any time in my life and I feel a tremendous
amount of pride getting to this place during what is otherwise a very difficult time in my life what with being
mid divorce / estate split etc. With a lot of time on my hands I've found walking is a great way to burn calories,
typically I'll walk the equivalent of 3 marathons a week so approx 80 miles. Usually 11-12 miles a day, I do laps of
a small park near where I live, it's a mile to get there and 1 lap is about half a mile. I do a set of 25 press ups
with my feet elevated on a bench at the start of each lap so maybe 500 press ups a day and it keeps my pulse raised
for a little while as I walk. Add to that my gym sessions of two to three hours 6 days a week and it's enough to get
the job done. I've cut carbs right down and typically eat one protein rich meal a day so it keeps me in calorie defecit
although I have a day each week where I throw caution to the wind and have whatever I fancy. Once a month I have
a Chinese takeaway (which was tonight actually) Schezuan chicken and chicken fried rice usually so still plenty of
protein there even when I'm being naughty. I am 5ft 11, 175lb at the moment with a 32 inch waist.

What keeps me motivated? Starting my life over again I suppose is the main driver of keeping this going.

I dropped 4 lbs yesterday. I believe not running keeps me from losing more, will get back to running as soon as it snows. Yesterday's workout for me was weak cause I felt "off" or weak but not weak enough to not stick through it till the end. I'd jumproped almost an hour though which may have contributed to fatigue for the rest of the workout (I usually only go 30 to 45 mins jumprope). I hope my body chemistry is right today for desire to go harder. In about 10 minutes I'll be going 2+ hours of this b!tch.

After reading each and everyone of these replies, I feel like one should not be in the game if you’re not working out.

Like if you're not working out, just get married or find someone you click with and settle down.

Exercising should be an essential item on your list- If it‘s even yoga. Do something.

Truth is I started a few years ago- 2018 I think, I never looked back.
I might miss a few days, or a week, But I don't dwell on that.

I put my joggers on, my under armor shirt and hit the park or the gym and keep going.

Just keep going man, dont matter how slow you go, as long as you don't stop.
(I think it was Confucius who said this.)

It's okay because you need discipline. I lack the motivation to even get up half an hour earlier. only discipline and regularity. Also, don't forget to rest. I may not train for a few days, I may miss a week. Don't blame yourself, just keep going.
