A big picture view? Quit that nonsense around here! All this can be explained by the Fourth Turning as well as understanding how a fiat reserve currency works.
Essentially, boomers, and to an extent Gen X'ers were born AFTER the "greatest generation" saved the world. That's when King Dollar was born. So boomers grew up not really having to sacrifice much, having the world handed to them on a platter.
So their kids, were TWO GENERATIONS removed from any idea of "if you want success you gotta bust your ass to even get close."
At the same time, NAFTA, etc. was outsourcing all jobs and just showing up and getting A's wasn't enough.
So Millenials have the worst of everything. Parents who didn't have to struggle, AND the only decent jobs are available to those who are either genetically gifted with intelligence OR willing to bust arse just to get a decent paycheck.
ON TOP OF THAT
They came through an increasingly crappy educational system that gives medals for being average.
To say the deck is stacked against them is an understatement. Sh*tty parenting. Sh*tty educational system. Sh*tty economy. Sh*tty role models.
I thought this video had a really good description of what you described.
