I don't really follow many writers or writings. Mainly, personal experience, trial and error.I did at one point like anyone else. The guidelines as written are for noobs, but way outdated imo, as well as playing a scared game. The best and quickest way to learn social dynamics and calibration is by going out and doing. Trial and error. Some think it's allot to take in at once as newbie, but if the Marine Corp can take an 18 year old kid and teach him to remain calm under fire with a drill sergeant screaming in his face, surely it's not asking allot for a newbie on SS to get out and start experimenting, learning context and getting comfortable in social interactions with the opposite sex. Men are playing defense way too often and leaving the ball in the hands of women. It takes allot of L's to fine tune this chit and a man will lose allot of them, regardless of how good he gets at this, or he should if he's always trying to raise the bar, as he should be.
