That is actually the perfect way to explain it, but one thing is missing. You need to end that story with the lessons that you learned from that time in your life. What did going through that teach you?I HONESTLY did so many hallucinogens that I induced symptoms of a serious mental illness and spent time in the State Mental Hospital and prison. I HONESTLY for some reason during the course of this substance abuse developed an obsession with some barely attractive girl who I'd never met, and it makes no sense to me why that happened even to this day.
The only way a (reasonable) female is going to be okay with that situation is if she hears you say you learn something and what it is.
That being said, there will always be females who don't care that this happened in your life and that you went to prison. I'm just not sure if that's the type of female you want to spend a decent amount of time with? No judgement here to each his own.
But save the story for a ways down the road. When you actually feel like you might have found someone that you want to share part of your life with. Give it a good two three four months, and wait for the appropriate time. When is the appropriate time? When you feel it you will know It Don't Force It
