I know I can trust SS members to tell me like it is (especially my haters). Here I am this morning after 6 months of working out. Tell me what I should focus on in the next 6 months. I want to get my jawline, abs and chest leaner.

Age: 46.9
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 225lb
Body fat: 12.5%

I would add muscle mass before you try and lose fat. It will be easier in the future to lose fat once you have added muscle. BTW you are higher BF% than that.

your kinda light for 6'5 dont you think? If i were you id be hopping on T, and beasting out in the gym on the weights...none of that gay ass personal trainer stand on 1 leg balancing a medicine ball in your hand type of BS workouts. Im talking bench, squats, deadlifts, rows, pullups, etc. Free weights super setted for maximum hypertrophy. 45 min workout blast sessions in an out.

You should be adding muscle mass to your frame overall. Especially on your shoulders and traps as they look flat/nonexistant.

Julian has the right idea. I was going to suggest hopping on cycle but the man needs more than 6 months with a personal trainer before he gets on gear. I waited 3 years of training naturally 2-3 hours a day 6 days a week before i ran my first cycle. I would suggest waiting a while for anyone interested in it.

Neil, I'm just wrapping up week 10 in Kris Gethin's Hardcore Daily Trainer program with just two weeks to go. In his program, he started out at 230 and got down to less than 200 lbs in his twelve-week program. I started at 136 lbs and I'm sitting at 152 lbs now just two months later. Thing is, he's the same height as me, 5'8".

BMI calculator of your height and weight says that you're in the overweight range at 26.7 BMI. So what kind of build do you want? What's your lifestyle like outside of the gym? That will decide whether you're bulking or cutting.

Personally, I'm going for "skinny ripped" build that will require me to gain 15 more pounds of muscle. I do many diverse sports and activities, so I wouldn't want to get too bulky.

I suggest you to aim to build more muscles, your fat is a problem now cause your overall body shape is not jacked.

If you only put 5-7kg of muscles your body will change enough to leave that fat unnoticed or barely noticed, focus on your upper chest, back, delts and arms and your waistline will look slimmer even if its the same.

Once you got a V shaped torso you can start slowly cutting, making sure you dont lose too much volume on your muscles.

If you go for fat loss now your muscles will look empty from the beginning while a noticeable decrease in bf in terms of aestethics will appear much later.

If you cut now you will look weak and fragile and lose that comanding presence you like so much, you will be the tall skinny guy.

Anyway check your blood and see if you need an extra kick given your age, nothing wrong in that.

Neil,

The biggest misconception is that there is a singular path that works. Each fitness and nutrition program needs to be tailored to the user (captain obvious).

My guess is that you need to re-evaluate your nutrition plan and figure out what foods work for you.

You probably also want to add swimming and or yoga to your routine.

You may also want to try P90x or P90x2 as a 3 month program.

My suspicion is that you may not be getting enough high intensity workouts in.

Need more muscle and less bodyfat. Whatever your doing up your protein, and for an "older guy" might need a test booster. Although if you had low enough bodyfat you may have enough muscle for a good "basketball" player build. Those guys have a body that attracts women, don't need to be built like a bodybuilder or even a football player.

I'd up protein, add squats, dead lifts, bent rows, etc while lowering my carbs enough that the fat starts falling off me, but enough protein to gain muscle. Build up your core, women like a nice midsection. Give yourself another 6 months, but take a peak at it monthly.

If he was 225 solid 8% bodyfat muscle on 6'5" it would look great.

Are you still drinking alcohol? Being in strip clubs and bars I'd imagine so, and it's what giving your midsection and body that puffy look. If you are drinking alcohol take it out and replace it with water. That alone will go along way to getting more ripped.

For almost 47 you look pretty good. All you guys not in your 40's yet, you have no idea how hard it is to keep your BF percentage under 10% without looking like a pow camp survivor.

I do agree you should quick drinking alcohol. In your 40's that does mess with you more than any other single thing you put in your body. Red wine, one or two glasses a day is all you should be drinking, any more than that and you are going to have problems.

I don't weight train anymore, too hard on my elbows and shoulder (just wait til you are 50 you will see) all I do now is Yoga, push-ups, sit ups, pull ups and biking. I don't even run anymore. I'm right at 6'0", 190 lbs and right at 10%. I exercise at least a hour a day and typically two... I eat half of what I used to 8 years ago and I'm right at 10% BF... it is freaking really hard.

Before going on testosterone replacement, look into dietery supplements too boost your hormone levels.
Zinc, Boron, Magnesium, Iodine, Selenium, B vitamins, they boost your thyroid and testicle function into producing more thyroid hormone and testosterone. For burning fat and gains.
Also when you don't jack off anymore you increase your androgen receptors and testosterone levels. Cold showers help too.

Good luck.

Yes!
And Magnesium helps with the conversion from cholesterol into vitamin D3 too. Taking a Vitamin D supplement whilst having a Mg deficiency can cause problems.
Magnesium is a key player in many biological functions in the body, and most westerners are deficient in it.
Just like Iodine btw.
I've been researching this sh!t for years.
I felt like the Hulk in the gym when I started supplementing with Lugols Iodine drops and Magnesium oil and Zinc piconilate and eating beef liver weekly for the copper. lol.

For starters, you look great for your age. Knowing your work ethic, I know you can look even better.

What type of training is he having you do. I not sure if it's because use your T may be on the decline or your training but you look to have a 'strength training body.' What that means is due to your training, you're probably stronger than ever before, however, the aesthetic of your body doesn't match. People with strength training bodies usually have great arms which you do here. For that cut ripped, aesthetic you should focus on lower weight higher rep everything. Also talk with your trainer and make sure you vocalize what you want to look like. That way, he can tailor the training towards it. You're paying him enough.

Tell the trainer you want your money back. Most trainers don't actually train for results because they would rather be safe and not push their clients hard to keep them coming back than push their clients hard and make them quit.

He isn't pushing you hard enough or you aren't making him push you hard enough. Until one of those happens your results aren't going to change. And if I'm being honest, for 6 months in those results are terrible. No muscle definition at all.

Getting in great shape is hard work. It causes pain. Are you willing to feel like you have been run over by a truck 6 days a week? To hurt so bad that you can barely bend down to pick up something you dropped on the floor because you are so sore?

This is what keeps people from being in shape...they aren't willing to pay the price.

His largest price will be the dietary adjustments required to get the body fat off. Muscle will take a while.
