great post @Ronaldo7
The question is how such a sociopath could overtake an entire nation. No nation is evil by default, and if the cruel outcome had been known from the beginning I'm sure it would never ever had started. The perceived failure of the democratic Weimar Republic and the economic breakdown made a perfect time for any strong Leader to appear. It started subtle with the attempt to recover national pride, building up minorities as scapegoats, the humilation from 1st WW it all came together. I believe it was more like an avalanche and in the end it became unstoppable. The movie The Wave was great to understand the psychology of Nationalsocialist movement.
Also the german people were made to believe that Poland started the war and Germany had to react to defend (Operation Tannenberg/The Gleiwitz incident). It is easy to deceive and misguide an entire nation if you control the media and the public consciousness.
Hitler was no military genius, but he had a vision and the charisma to enable others. The strategies applied by Germany in both I.&II. WW were constituted long before in the Schlieffen-Plan and tactics were developed from previous war experiences, such as Blitzkrieg by Erich von Manstein. With regards to Hitler, he was a brilliant leader in his own sense. He conquered most of Europe & returned Germany to the very top.
