I've read the guide to cutting and some other threads from the search, but even though I'm consuming less calories than what I'm using, my body seems to find energy beyond my fat storage...

fat loss isn't immediate, be consistent for 3-4 weeks and then gauge progress.

The larger you are the longer it will take to see results. Keep at it and you'll be scrubbing clothes on you stomach in no time!

Re:

My personal understanding of fat-loss...

[] Don't view it as a diet, view it as a way of life. Eat good, well-rounded, balcned, meals Sunday Through Thursday, or Monday through Friday. Don't be hard on yourself if you lose it a little bit on Saturday and Sunday, or Friday. For instance, I make salads each day that contain things I like, such as Olives, Chicken, Jalapenos, Cheese, Bean Sprouts, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Almonds, Chick Peas, etc. I also eat Turkey patties thrown on the Foreman grill; 3 patties = 60 g of protein and about 10 g of fat. I might throw a lil soy sauce of them, and eat them with broccoli.

[] Work your way away from excessive sugar. Instead of drinking soda, I drink Poland Spring Sparkling Water. If you taste that versus soda, you can taste how overwhelming sugar is. It kills your taste buds and makes you almost resilient to GOOD food. Salad DOES have taste, but people are used to hard amounts of dressing. Beef and meat and turkey and steak HAVE tastes, but people are so used to sauces that they can't appreciate it and cook it well. There was a time when condoments weren't so heavily used. That's part of the unhealthiness of meals.

[] Focus on eating big quantities of protein and fat. Carbs ARE not the preferred source of energy. When the body switches to burning fat, it will eat up your fat stores, but it takes 4 plus weeks to get used to fat over carbs. If you've been a long-time carb consumer, then you have a battle in switching over to fat and protein and moderate amount of carbs. I'm consuming about 20% of my calories as carbs. You WILL feel sluggish switching over, but even 100g of carbs in a day IS alot. The body runs on Fat, the Protein goes to the muscle, organ repair, and skin growth, etc. The carbs replenish the brain, blood, and liver sugar stores.

[] Have healthy alternatives to cheat, if you do. If you're going to jump at bad food, go for pudding instead of ice cream. If you cheat, so be it.

[] Be MORE active. More active people CAN eat more calorie dense, carb rich foods. They won't get as close to their potential, but still, they can do it without getting awful shape.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I'll keep eating less than what I'm using for a couple more months and see how it goes.

A-Unit, special thanks for the tips. They're perfect for someone like me just switching over to wholesome living.

Calorie-deficit diets only work for so long until your body compensates...it is best to just develop a healthy diet as a lifestyle instead of for the sole purpose of losing weight.

I'm trying to be both healthy and lean, hopefully both. It's not much good if I'm healthy but still flabby.

Personally I hate calorie counting, so when I'm cutting I just take as much fat, simple carbs and sugar out of my diet as possible while keeping protein high. I don't eat carbs 4 hours before bedtime and I try to get in 30-40 minutes of cardio before breakfast 2 times per week.

As others have said, don't expect results in a matter of weeks. Rapid weightloss is unhealthy and will leave you with sagging skin...and it's easier to regain as soon as you go back to regular eating.

I lost 15lbs of fat within 12 weeks and gain 7lbs of muscle. I recommend that you just get the skinnyguy program if you are serious about getting fit.

I've been trying low(er) carb for about a year, and nothing. About 1.5 months ago, I switched to diesel's cutting guide. Dropped about 2% (something like 6 pounds) bfat, and actually improved my squat, bench, and military press. Now I'm kind of tapering off, raising back to maintainance, but still eating clean. High protein (1.5/2 g per lbs), moderate carbs properly timed and from clean sources (vegs, oatmeal), and about 30g of fat a day. Still doing HIIT.
