BigDawg I can't believe I saw another shout out for Enchant! This is the last place I'd expect to see another fan of them

Cool to see some Dream Theater fans here. Yes I have heard Octavarium and it's definitely one of their best...the title track is probably my fav DT song at this moment. The band can do no wrong

Oh, yeah, I've been an Enchant fan since I first heard ABotW about 10 years ago, and I've been into prog since I first heard Yes' "Roundabout" probably close to 30 years ago. Yeah, I'm an old f****er.

As for DT, my fave piece of theirs has to be the live version of "Trial of Tears" from Once in a Livetime.

No Symbolic?!?!? :D

The last 4 Death albums completely changed the way I came up with drum parts and thought about music in general. Some of the best musicians out there were in that band...RIP

And 7th Son is THE best Maiden song! Well tied with Hallowed Be Thy Name

Let's use logic here: I only buy albums that have quality from top to bottom, therefore, I listen to quality music.

You don't make any sense. Go play in the street, seriously.

Hhhmmm. I would't call most of stuff mentioned here 'essential', but it's all subjective.

Anyway, five of my all time fav albums which changed my perception of music & i can still listen to & still be enthralled are..

Pink Floyd - The wall
Manic Street Preachers - The holy bible
Blur - Parklife
The Beatles - White album
Radiohead - OK Computer

& people who just download music, i think you're missing out on the synergy & pace that an album brings. It's the flow of the music & how the tracks compliment each other that makes 'classic' albums so enticing.

I mean, listening to random tracks off of The Beatles Abby Road album would cheapen the whole experience & make it somewhat pointless.

It's like saying "when i watch Raging Bull, i just skip to the fight scenes. I don't watch the padding of all that talking nonsence." You're missing the point of the astectic of albums.

Sure I have, but I don't buy the album if that is the case. This is what mp3's are for, try before you buy.

If you test-drive a car, and don't like how it handles, you don't buy it.
