I don't think it really matters. Actions speak louder than words. If you're playing women, they will notice, not through words but through actions.

If you notice, men who walk around claiming to have sex with many women usually HAVEN'T had sex with many women. Especially those men dumb enough to brag INFRONT of other women.

I've always kept my words classy, and let my actions do the talking.

I guess there's a time for everything. Say, you've been dating for 6 months, or so, so you gained the confidence to say it, and you know she's into you, you could say "When we started dating I really wanted to see you, but refrained from calling to spark your interest".

I don't think it's negative, done in the right context.
