Evidently, these ugly men are getting women who are "out of their league."

My favorite:

Billy Joel met Christie Brinkley while they were both on vacation in St. Barts. But how could the 5' 5" piano man win over the 5' 9" model? Write a song for her, of course. The result was the 1983 gold record "Uptown Girl." He was smart enough to put her in the video too. Oh, and the fact that he gave her a diamond engagement ring that was reportedly "the size of a sugar cube" probably didn't hurt either.
OK, so all these young, sexy women are supposed to go for equally young, handsome men, even if the old, ugly guys are far more interesting to them?

Do I detect a feminist message here?

well the ultimate social proof is your status........if U are rich n famous......WOMEN ADORE THAT and your game is all that much easier.

Do U think Brad Pitt hits on women...........HELL NO, he sends one of his body guards "go invite that chic over here, tell he I want to meet her"

Billy Joel got the Model cause he has star power..........HE LOST THE CHIC cause he is clueless of how attraction works.

Gaming hotties when U Have high status is a lot easier..........chics adore being in the spotlight. High status get preferential treatment, one of those benefits is instanty popularity.

It is a common misconception that the attractive young women who get with older actors, rock stars, etc are always golddiggers.

Status is intoxicating to women.

Look at Seal and whats her name. He's ugly as sin. She's a bit older but not as old as he is from what I gather, and she's hot and she makes her own money.

Let me repeat this to you again...STATUS IS INTOXICATING TO WOMEN!

It's easy to look at an older guy with money and assume he landed the chick simply because he's her lottery ticket, but it isn't always that simple. I truly believe that in many cases it is GENUINE attraction. Does his wallet factor into the equation? It does with ALL women. Everything else being equal a woman will choose the wealthier man.

I have been involved in the status game and seen it firsthand. Not to the level of a rock star or famous actor, mind you, but as the owner of a well known local business, the producer of some funny ass tv commercials, living in a "cribs" style townhouse, two nice cars, etc, etc, etc.

So I know from being on both sides of the fence what status can do for you. It is an "attractant" just like having a great body (although we won't go into the argument of looks vs. other that never goes anywhere).

Don't underestimate the TRUE power status has to attract women.

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

Good point.

Yeah, status plays a huge role, I see it in the rock/metal/goth scenes. The guys always hooking up and pulling the hottest women, are the guys in bands, DJ's(not Don Juan DJ's, but music DJ's), and promoters. And it's not even like a lot of these guys are well-known either or make a lot of money. It's the mere fact that they're in a band playing live shows, a promoter, or DJ that makes these women attracted.

I can almost guarantee, I wouldn't have pulled my last girlfriend(a piece of ass) had I not been in a band at the time.

I wasn't much into sports after grade school, but I will never for the rest of my life forget when I was the pitcher on my little league team.

That was my first taste of the spotlight. People treated me VERY differently. And I wasn't even that good! It was funny, cause one of the kids on the team all of a sudden idolized me just because I was the pitcher.

I can only imagine playing college or pro ball or being in a fairly popular band.

A chick I know somehow met the lead singer of an indie band and you could just tell by the way she talks that she is starstruck. I would bet you never even heard of this band before, but she was like a giddy school girl talking about this guy. "How cool is it to be emailing the lead singer of a BAND!!!" I wouldn't now, that doesn't make my panties wet sweetheart.....

When these famous people talk about ****ing thousands and thousands of women, I don't doubt it.

Ahh, the RockStar phenomenon ( read sports star, movie star, even politician perhaps )

What is the appeal of some one as ugly as Mick Jagger or Rod Stewart ?
Both are awful singers and both as ugly as a hatful of a$$holes. So that eliminates looks and talent.
At least Billy Joel is a gifted musician which allowed him to write Ms Brinkley a gold charting song which got the girl, and made him richer..

It is simply this..

Women are drawn to men who are -
a) Adored by many other women.
b) Almost impossible to get.

It is no more obscure than that.

I like Tom Leykis' take on it, which is basically what we're talking about. His version is that women are attracted to 3 things:

Wealth
Fame
Power

Build those 3 and you'll never have a lonely night. Every celeb, athlete, politician, and executive holds those 3 cards, hence why they can get women with ease. And we're not just talking gold diggers either. That "starstruck" description of the women getting wet for the lead singer in the band likely doesn't have a pot to piss in fiscally speaking (indie bands are broke as hell usually), so the wealth is out the door, but overall it's all the same thing really: STATUS.

That article attempted to superimpose a man's criteria for attraction over all those women, which is the reason for the author's bewilderment. Those women may have been out of their mate's "league" in terms of LOOKS, but that means very little. The status of those men place them all in the upper echelon of male attractiveness, regardless of their looks or age.

All the more reason to devote more energy on building status (not necessarily wealth!) instead of mastering PUA tricks and overanalyzing interactions. We can't all be celebrities, but we surely all have the ability to hold a high position in SOMETHING.

When you have status, all the extraneous, tedious facets of "game" disappear, and the crux of the matter--filtering out low quality girls--becomes readily apparent. You don't have to worry about building attraction because it's already there. You can 'NEXT' like there's no tomorrow without a second thought. It's really about efficiency--making pickup as easy an endeavor as possible--THAT'S where options come from.

Hey, let's not knock Seal. He loves snowboarding. I met him on a chairlift at Whistler when I was a teenager. He seemed like a decent human being to me... he was friendly and sociable at a time when most of the kids in school were real *******s to me, frankly. Despite the fact his songs are a little cheesy, he's still an incredible singer, and they're in the greatest ski video ever, P-Tex Lies & Duct Tape. Girls don't mind that romantic **** either.

His wife is supermodel Heidi Klum. I once read an anecdote, that for a marriage proposal or honeymoon, he arranged a helicopter drop into a snowcave filled with candles, a bed, rose petals, etc. I will admit for all of you that that is actually pretty damned cool.

Yes, he needed to penetrate her social circle to impress her, or maybe she just liked his songs and wrote him... but rich, status, or not, I think she could have done a lot worse.

I think you have to be careful of being too reductionist here. The global truth is that status attracts women, but it is not the only factor that affects women's decisions.

I'm not sure you'd never have a lonely night again either, I mean those kinds of girls are leeches. That's a little idealistic of me, but status does not make everyone happy. ie. Kurt Cobain.

Absolutely.

I will say one thing though.....wealth is in and of itself a form of status. Like it or not, wealth, fame, power, and status are all usually intertwined to an extent. You don't have to be wealthy to have status (as in the indie band example) but it certainly doesn't hurt.

And to say that all women who gravitate toward any or all of these things are "leeches" is ridiculous. All women are attracted to these things to some extent. More often than not it's a HUGE factor.

So now we can get into the 'groupies', 'golddiggers', and 'pro-hos' debate. If you're a superstar, you can find the best of the best. If you are less, you can find yourself in the position of ONLY getting the groupies, or whatever, and not a chick that's TRULY into you for who you are. Celebrities can get laid a lot, but sometimes, they are very lonely. I remeber a few christmas's ago, I was in my bar downstairs, and some guy from LA Guns came in and started drinking. I can only name one of their songs, but I know they're washed up, but the dude was cool at FIRST. He called me over, and started buying me top shelf shots, and shyt. Later on he got super depressed. It was Xmas day, and he's a rockstar, hanging out in a dive bar where no chicks would give him the time of day. He started in with the 'blah blah blah, they only like me for the money, blah blah blah.'

Basically, the guy had the worst personality I've ever seen. He got so wasted, he fell over on the floor, and the bartender said 'If you rob him, I want ten %.' He was LAME. Im sure in LA though, the girls would crawl on him, even though he complained they only liked him for his status. He was a rich, lonely, rock star, but not 'superstar' status.

On the other hand, I happen to be friends with the drummer for one of the biggest 90's bands, and he is cool. He doesnt talk rock star, he doesnt flash money. He is just genuine, yet he almost married a chubby girl that I have turned down on numerous occasions. I never understood this, as I have witnessed full on orgies in his house, with tons of hot chicks. He has TONS of options, and it aint cuz of his looks. You just say the name of his band, and people freak out over it. I think he's smart enough to weed out the groupies, and golddiggers though.

It's more then just status. These guys are celebrities. They get to go to the best places, best parties. They get treated royally. It's FUN by association. And POWER. These guys walk into a room, everyone knows who they are. They command audiences.

Also, these women run in their social circles and work projects. So they live in similar worlds. Heidi Klumm, Seal's wife, is NOT going to date a waiter she met at a restaurant while in Chattanooga. She's got multi million dollar enterprises and endorsements going and is raking in top dollar, travelling around the world on modeling assignments. She's going to look for a guy that understands what that lifestyle entails.

Interestingly, I recall years ago Paulina Porizkova talking about her marriage to Ric Ocasek. She ADORES him. She literally fawned when talking about him. He must know how to keep a woman in love. And now they've been married some 20 years. But quantity does not mean quality: On the reality show they had, Shannon Tweed goes clothes shopping dropping $20,000 on Gene Simmons' credit card while laughing behind his back, for all the world to see. Big difference in attitude from Paulina Porizkova. Tells me something.

Bottom line: It ain't all about looks or age for a man.

Honestly,I could never relate to the status mentality. It just doesn't matter to me. I mean sure,I would like to make lot's of money, have nice cars, nice house, that's all a goal for me. But this culture of celebrity worship has people, well brainwashed to me. But when I see people idolizing others all cause of how much money they make,I just don't get it. I mean,if someone famous who made alot of money, say came into where you work, and started talking down to you, like you were a piece of ****,would you take that? I don't care how much money you make, don't talk to me like i'm a piece of ****.
