There's a big difference in graphics, but game developers haven't reached the full potential of blu-ray.

XBox 360 only has more exclusive titles and games at the moment because they rushed to get the Xbox 360 out before the Playstation 3. Playstation 3 is catching up with the games now, and soon everything will be on blu-ray (because blu-ray won the war VS HD DVDs). Therefore, a new Xbox console will probably come out soon too.

There is clearly no competition between 360 and PS3.
Three different points I want to tackle. Now there really isn't a huge difference in graphics at this point, but potentially there could be. Killzone 2 is easily going to be the best looking console game when it comes out (February 09). It really would be because of a combination of things. Blu ray certainly helps, but two things help it more than blu ray. One Guerilla is a first party developer that is fully backed by Sony. Sony just pumps money into them to create a visual beast. The money helps because Guerilla has shown that they are amazingly talented developers. Some of the technical things they are doing in Killzone 2 are amazing. Another thing that is really starting to help Sony is that their first party devs are wrapping their heads around the cell and are starting to find ways to optimize it. Sony has some great talented first party studios that will keep pushing the cell. If i'm not mistaken all the first party studios help each other or at leat can help each other.

Well the 360 does have the most exclusives because they have been in the market longer. The thing is this year both systems are pretty equal in exclusives.

Microsoft IMO will not come out with the next xbox anytime soon. Like any company they like making money. Why kill the money making machine so soon? Especially since the only company they are actually competing with is loosing money. Sony is going to try and become profiatble with the PS3 so Microsoft doesn't have to be in a rush to come out with the next xbox. They also do not need to worry about coming out early to get a foothold in the gaming industry like the did with the original xbox. They already have cemented themselves in the industry. Plus they have built this image of being the "hardcore" machine. It doesn't make sense to make another xbox so soon since there is tons of money to be made with the 360. The next xbox IMO will come out 2011 or 2012.

I think it more then ironic that I was watching the military channel when the thought of this exact thread popped into my head. I was going to search for it before I made this post but here it is regardless, number 1 on the sosuave website. Thinking about such coincidence might drive the average human mad but i just wanted to bring it up.

I've had a PS3 in my household for over a year now. It belongs to my house mate and was bought by his brother. The main reason he got a PS3 was because it's a gaming system with a bluray dvd player in one. I like watching movies on his plasma with the the bluray. It's awesome. I have played a great deal of amazing games on the same system. For a while I thought about buying my own PS3 for my room where I could play games and watch movies on my own. It all came crashing down however when I tried the playstation network and realized how incredibly far behind sony was when it came to playing games with anyone other then yourself or the person next to you, when possible. I say when possible because a lot of the games sony scripted are one player or multiplayer only when online.

Now when I'm voicing this complaint, I'm not saying it to you as a person who prefers one brand over another, I'm saying it as some one who has owned both a PS2 and an Xbox. I have spent endless hours playing the exclusive games for both systems and that era, like this current one was and is inconclusive. For the most part you as a human being will not notice any difference in performance or visuals. It's not like how it was with Sega and Super Nintendo (not the original console war but the one where money was the main issue). They were and currently are on par as it goes for visuals. Microsoft defiantly has the edge in the last generation system in the current for multiplayer games. I like to play alone from time to time but for me personally the value of games comes from the ability to play with others as much as possible. The human element provides a greater level of intangibility for the games then can the computer. Sociality provides for commradiry and friendship so in that respect, Sony is beat. NO ONE is on the PS network and those waiting rooms are drab at best.

However the plus side for the PS3, is that I love that bluray dvd player! On the plasma The dark knight was AWESOME. I never used my old xbox, as a dvd player because they broke the f*ck down if you used it as both back in the day. Playstations don't have the that problem. Fortunately I have a nice LCD tv that has a dvd player built in, but there's no way in hell i'm buying that external HD dvd player for my xbox 360. They already have bad heat problems so why chance it with something that will likely shorten the life of the system?

Bottom line. If you're casual with your gaming but enjoy movies, cough up the extra 100 or so dollars and buy a PS3. You can still get a few games to play with your boys and watch your date films with your girlfriends in style. If you're a gamer and you like the pure aspect of video games, get a 360. It's the best console for people who like video games hands down.
I'm going to call you on your bull. Nobody online really? What am I doing playing game of the year LBP (which btw hasn't had fantastic sales) four player co-op online and having a blast or what am I doing playing Wowhawk online which came out last year. Saying that no one is online is pretty dumb. I do agree that the waiting rooms are meh. The only problem I have with the ps3 online is that not everyone has a headset. Saying that the 360 is the best console for games is laughable because really objectively compare the lineup this year game for game and they are pretty much equal.

I'm running the 7036 beta of Windows 7 as I write this (no codename as yet) with minimal issues and a very low ram run.

This tells me that Microsoft is not prioritizing the next XBOX system. They're gearing up for the next OS.

Sucks because I adore my 360 and have had zero issues with it. I've played the PS3 at my friends house and, though it does look ravishing on his gigantic 60" 1080p, the games themselves didn't really look much better than on my measly 42" 1080i. It's taken too long for Sony to play catch-up to Microsoft in the games department.

Fallout 3, Fable II and Gears 2 are more than enough reason for me to hold on to my XBOX.

The only way to know which system is best for you is to play them both. Fortunately any Best Buy, Circuit City or Wally World have systems up for people to scratch on. Do your homework first.

God help anyone standing in front of me when Resident Evil 5 comes out.

X360:
Pros:
+ Will always have a bigger game library than the PS3, just because XNA and also because it's pretty much built like a computer.
+The controller was made with all the ergonomic rules on mind.
+Decent-prized.
+Xbox live works like a charm, as long as you dont listen to the users
+Doesnt use a PROM memory to validate genuine games, and makes developing a whole lot easier and without any need of the PROM characteristics.
Cons:
-Atrocious heat sinks, resulting in the infamous Red Ring.

PS3:
Pros:
+Better hardware quality
+Blu-ray
Cons:
-It's basically a blu-ray player with gaming capability.Developing games for it is as painful as a circumcision with a scissor.
-Price. Personally, I cant afford it.
-Online experience...nope.

Personally, I prefer the X360.From both a player's and developer's POV. Sales pretty much say the same.

Karma: There's a reason why they want that OS out so badly. Vista is a blooper, they need to take that out of the way ASAP.It's top priority.

Xbox 360 exclusive games.. Halo, Gears of War, Fable, Ninja Gaiden 2..

PS3 exclusive games; Killzone 2, God of War, Resistance, Socom, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, MotorStorm, Final Fantasy..

--Each have the same games now except, each console has some different exclusive games.

Xbox 360 has a better online but, ps3 came out with home edition. (better online experience and it's free)
Xbox 360 has media streamimg - PS3 you can search the web on it. Example; you can view YouTube video's on your ps3

PS3 is built better with less problems and has Blue Ray while, xbox only supports HD.

ps3 uses a Cell BroadBand which, is suppose to revolutionize graphics and such. So, within time after people figure out all its capabilities.. ps3 will have some good looking games.

Each console has its advantages and disadvantages. ps3 cost more but, is more reliable. As a 360 owner myself... I'd lean towards a ps3. 360 has a better online gaming experience as of right now. It's hard to say...

Xbox has been working on the red ring of death for 3 years now with no solution!! Also, they have a lawsuit for their console's scratching the sh!t out of gamers disc.

It's only a matter of time before the PS3 branches out over the Xbox 360.

Bottom Line Xbox has better online and some games that PS3 does not have. PS3 is built better and with its better technology (blue ray and cell broadband and ect. The ps3 with rise above but, it lacks online experience. It still has it but, not always the best connection.

I've tried a lot of the Vista betas, and I was always disappointed. Hopefully, they'll do something right with Windows 7 and stop copying OS X.

Resident Evil has always been my favorite game, I was addicted to the 4 and I'm dying for the 5 to come out.

I've had a ps3 for about 8 months now, and loved every minute of it.
When i was shopping for a console I took a look at 360 failure rates and decided that microsoft can go **** themselves, i've had enough problems with their buggy windows software already.

Ps3 blu ray is amazing, that alone is worth the buy. Just make sure that if you get a ps3 you have a 1080p widescreen tv to use it with to get the full high def experience.

As for games...i've played a few of more highly regarded 360 games and they're pretty good, but metal gear solid 4(and metal gear online that comes with it) beats everything that xbox has to a bloody pulp. THE best game i've ever played on pc or any console...its more than worth buying a ps3 just to play it. Motorstorm is kickass too.

Maybe I should clarify. When I say NOBODY I mean it comparatively. There are SIGNIFICANTLY LESS people online with PS3's then their are those owning x box 360's. Again I know because we own both systems. You really can't dispute that xbox has the online portion of the gaming toppling sony's attempt at the same. Microsoft geared the whole system for online play after the inception of online play for the original xbox went over so well.

Comparatively speaking, there are SIGNIFICANTLY LESS online games made for the PS3 vs those for the x box, and said only play is visibly different. I submit, Resistance 2. I loved the single player portion of that game BUT two things take it out of the running even against Halo 3. The story mode in resistance, is SINGLE PLAYER....what the f*ck?! Loved the story loved the attributes but come on a one player campaign for the bulk of game? Sure you can co-op the online portion from your house but again it's scenario and you need 3+ people for it to be enjoyable. I'm not even going to get into how Halo, released over a year ago, blows the multiplayer elements of resistance right out of the water. Both gears games are set up much better for co-op too, both on and off line.

I will admit. I will be forcing someone to buy Kill Zone 2 when it comes out...the game looks sick. Likewise with God of War 3 and Tekken 6. But with the exception of those three games (two of which won't be out until Q4 next year, I very hard pressed to find many games coming out for PS3 that aren't on x box. While conversely not only are there more great titles coming out for x box, there are expansion packs (Halo OST, Grand Theft Auto IV: Lost and D*mned [and another GTAIV expansion])That make already great games, even better.

I gotta call it like I see it. When PS2 came out before Xbox, it hand an insurmountable lead because there was 2 years of games and development for the system, and though comparative, Xbox would never catch up. It APPEARS that the same thing is happening again. Only Microsoft beat Sony to the punch this time around.
