It's not "Too Short" it's "Too $hort"

Get it right if you're going to give him props.

If you guys are really worried about looking like/turning into a wuss because of the music you listen to, you're in serious trouble. Listen to music because of the wide array of emotions it can make you feel...not every song has to be gangster/pimp/sarge battlecry music to wage war by.

Fvck I can blast Slayer, Bach, Yes, and The All-American Rejects and still be the same dude afterwards no matter what's playing.

Exactly. Listen to what the **** you want. I've got pretty much every base covered anyway. From black metal, death metal and industrial to dream pop, trip hop and old school lo-fi country, and every damn thing in between. A ton of what I'm into would fall under the "whiney" umbrella. So what. Girls dig when you play them some Portishead or Slowdive before taking their panties off.

Yeah, I knew the rap music would come up! Sorry, not my bag.
I'll stick with The Ramones, and The Black Crowes. And yeah, I'm not really pissed about it, just noticing it.
I'm not one for rap either. This is what you need:

Tool
Boston
Metallica
David Allen Coe

Seriously? Are you guys having a laugh? I mean Jebus, thats like saying that playing shooter games makes people shoot up schools. The logic is just false. If music effects you to the point where you can't listen to a song because it will give you the emotions that are conveyed in the song, then maybe you could benefit from some p-sychiatry.

No single listening to a wuss song is going to transform you into a wuss, but if you surround yourself with wuss music, then you will inevitably think more like a wuss- or maybe you listen to wuss music because it appeals to you as a wuss...same thing. If your going through a break up, then break up songs are great to feed your mind. It really is all in your head, so if you don't want to be a wuss, don't feed your mind wuss music breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Ehh...I still tend to disagree. In fact I think listening to "wuss music" can actually give you something to make a connection with. Listening to The Smiths or The Cure will come in useful in talking to the indie hipster girls.

I hear The Who on the radio, and there's Pete Townshend, singing, "I know I'm worth nothing without you," which says his self esteem is based on a woman's acceptance.
The song "Bargain" is either about Townshend's devotion to God or his guru, Meher Baba. I forget which one.

There's alot of "wuss music" out there though. I've never thought of the negative conditioning until now. Good thread.

FoolsCause is right. "Bargain" was about God. Kick-ass song, too.

It took me a while to give Radiohead a chance on account of "Creep." Not as much for the lyrics as the fact it's a totally inferior ripoff of "The Air That I Breathe," which the Hollies did. But OK Computer totally redeemed them. Amazing music, that.

A guy who was a very good buddy, totally got into that song....less than six months later, he had destroyed his marriage, and was living back at his parent's home.

....I rest my case.

It's official. None of you have a DJ bone in your body.

Turns out most of these male singer songwriters are trying to sell records. A great way to sell records is to write panty droppers (like james blunt or coldplay).

These guys write lyrics that women want to hear. Things that are romantic. Things that touch women. I figured the guys here would know that that's what your supposed to be doing when you're around women.

Being sweet, being romantic. It works with women. You think Pete Townshend is an AFC? John Mayer?

C'mon, wake up here. They write about appreciating women the way women want to be appreciated.

Don't get me wrong, most of the sappy stuff that's in songs would sound retarded if you said it out loud to a woman, but in a song it works. And that's why they do it.

I understand that a lot of you look at EVERYTHING through the DJ lens. Everything you see has to be related to being a DJ or not. That's fine at first, but if you're hating on successful songwriters because you think their lyrics are AFC you don't really understand what being a dj is about.

My first intent with this thread was to indicate how much AFC music I noticed since studying this philosophy. I remarked how it can affect the thinking of someone who could become an AFC, regardless of how some of you protest that theory.
If these guys want to make a buck writting that stuff, fine. But as much as I respect P Townshend for all he's done, and who he is, if he's not an AFC, then why did he get arrested for child porn a few years ago?

Just 'cause these guys write songs, and maybe cash in, it doesn't make them Don Juans. They all have plenty of problems with women. Where do you think they get their material?

And there's a huge difference between being romantic(John Mayer, "Your body is a wonderland", or whatever that song is called), and being AFC(Pete Townshend,"I know I'm worth nothing without you").

Ok, here's a real DJ song...

It's "Losers and Winners, by (Metal band) Accept.

You told me that you like her
But she doesn't wanna know
You tried so much to take her
But there's no way to go
I know that kind of feeling
Knocking on someone's door
I know the endless crying
When you don't know what you're living for

Write a letter (what's the matter)
You'll feel better (write a letter)
You'll feel better when it's done

There is one way to show
What you feel for the girl
Write her a lovely letter
Tell her what you're looking for
Don't think it's old fashion
To take one's heart (when it's true)
You gotta take it as a man
When you can't win her in this game

Write a letter (what's the matter)
You'll feel better (write a letter)
You'll feel better when it's done
There are losers and winners
Just like you and me
Losers and winners
There are losers and winners
Just like you and me
Losers and winners
Just like you and me

You should give me the letter
I'll use it for my own (haha)
Maybe she wants to take me
Before she stays alone
Could be my destination
To pick up broken heart
Why don't you take easy
And screw the girl who's next to you

There are losers and winners
Just like you and me
Losers and winners
There are losers and winners
Just like you and me
Losers and winners

I prefer bands that don't display emotions (except for hatred). I'm blasting some Satyricon right now.

I love a lot of what you boys would call, "AFC" songs. Back when I was a lost boy in college I went through a period of only listening to "hard" music. Rap, rock, etc. It was simply a way to hide from the fact that I was just another chump to all the chubs on campus. Fast forward to the day I landed in Kyiv. Immediately I became more comfortable with who I was. I started listening to what "I" like. Opera, Lionel Richie, really lame Russian pop/techno, house, Phil Collins, Igor Krutoy, Debbie Gibson, etc all started to become party of my music collection.

My point is that you are looking in the wrong places for why you are worth nothing in society. It isn't the music you listen to. It isn't how you walk. It isn't being an a$$ or wearing fuzzy hats. It comes down to being afraid to TOTALLY change. Dump all of your old friends, quit your job, leave the country, etc. You do those things and I promise you won't be concerned with whether or not music will define who and what you are. You will finally be forced to come to terms with what makes you YOU. None of you will be happy until you fully become comfortable with yourselves. That is why I encourage all young males to start new lives in places where beautiful girls will give you the time of day. That way you can finally quit being fakes and start being real. Trust me, the real you is 100 times more interesting than what you are currently. Too bad you are afraid of who you really are.

Politicians always blame things like music for societal ills. Why? Because it is a great way to get the average idiot from thinking about the real issues. The dumbest of the dumb can relate to music. The same goes for those who try to use music as a scapegoat for why they are unhappy in life.

You guys are clueless as to the power of music, and media.

I don't sit around whining about how music ruined my life. To the contrary, music has pretty much kept me alive all these years.

What I was trying to do was make some conversation....you know, conversation? It's supposed to be good for your "inner game."

This thread was moved from the general discussion, because "music has nothing to do with playing" first of all. This whole philosophy is about more than playing, and second, if music has nothing to do with playing, what was Barry White all about?

And to those who would try to claim music has nothing to do with negative behavior of society, how about Hitler using all those anthems to rally Germany to war, or Charles Manson, using the Beattles in a diabolical way to get something ugly done, or any other number of cases?
