Hey im thinking of joining my Highschool wrestling team. I hate the idea of spandex but heck i was wrestling this kid today about 20 pounds heavyer then me and i took him down and pinned him. Its fun. Do any of you guys wrestle? and if so is it hard to be on your highschool team? i weigh 170 and and 5'7...... Kinda chubby but i think it might be good for me.

I wrestled varsity for two years in the 121 weight class

wrestling, imo, is the most physically intensive sport you can play in high school....
it's just you and someone else of your similar weight, one on one, no teammates...... for six minutes (well, 3 segments of 2 minutes, if I remember correctly). By the second third, you are tired as hell. By the last section, both of you are so wiped out you can barely stand up, but you have to keep going...

plus the training in intensive..... and you have to start watching what you eat.....

but in the end, it's all worth it! You feel SO incredible! It's like there's nothing you can't accomplish! You lose weight, you gain muscle, you eat better, your body just feels awesome. After a good practice, I usually went home in such a clear state of mind....

I highly recommend wrestling..... but in the first couple weeks, be prepared to stare at the ceiling alot..... because you'll find yourself getting tossed around by the experienced wrestlers all day long......... but odn't get discouraged........ practice hard and soon you'll be throwing bulgy sweaty guys on the floor and having your way with them...... :D:D

I wrestled in high school as well. Placed third in Div I championships.

Wrestling is a fun sport, and it was my gateway into NHB/MMA fighting.

It's a fun sport, but it takes hard work and dedication to succeed in it. You sound like you have a wrestler's build - go for it.

We don't have a wrestling team...I actually don't really understand the sport. Can someone tell me about it?

Wow

Way to go man. I was surprised that this post was actually about self improvement instead of "yo what sport can i do to get sum chiks to fuk!!!11"

I wrestled too. It is the most physically demanding sport in HS hands down. Football's IMHO is a pansy sport compared to wreslting. You get glory for yourself when you win a match, there's no one to blame if you lose. It's a great test of mental and physical fitness b/c it's as much, if not more, brains than brawn.

Shorter wrestlers are actually very good b/c you can have more muscle instead of having all your wt being bones and you also have a lower center of gravity. A little fat doesnt matter at all b/c i guarantee you'll shed those in a month.

I'll tell you this though, wrestlers in HS, atleast where i come from, dont get as much props and attention as some football guy, but the feeling of satisfaction from winning and the comraderie that builds from wrestling's much greater.

The only thing i hated about wrestling was cutting wt, eating like 1600 cals a day when you're burning well over 6000 is a *****. Running with full warmups to lose water wt sux ass too.

If you train hard and have confidence, you'll have the time of your life wrestling.

I use to be a scrawny piece of **** wuss before i joined the wrestling team. I didnt think i would make it through those grueling practices and all the wieght loss stuff involved. But hey i stuck it out and its the best damn thing thats ever happened to me hands down. I love the sport.

As for the spandex thing i got over that quickly and now all i got to say is if ur to embarressed to wear one then the reason is because u dont want ppl to literrally see that u are not a man.

I wrestle 112 in North Florida. I wouldnt say im all that great but just knowing that i am a wrestler makes me feel good about myself. It seriously was the best thing that ever happened to me.

I joined the wrestling team last year (as a freshmen) so I could have 3 sports total (Football, wrestling, track). From my expierence, wrestling is one of the hardest sports you can find. Practices were b-ches at my school. But I actually quit wrestling cause I didn't really like the concept of grappling sweaty men in tights, no offense to anyone who wrestles.

Oh, and wrestlers don't seem to get any recognition at all at my school. It's all Football, Basketball, and Baseball players.
