We got rid of the stupid laws you mentioned because they made no sense in a progressively enlightened world. Not every law/rule is right, the ones you mentioned were definitely not, but why is it that you think one saying that a 30 year old can't have consentual sex with a 17 year old is? There is no scientific evidence that a girl is more capable of making a reasonable and informed choice of what you do with her body when she's 30 than she is when she's 17. There no evidence that a girl is less likely to sustian physical injury at 30 rather than 17. There's no evidence to say that a girl who becomes sexually active when she's 17 is going to have more mental problems than a girl who waits until she's 30. And I have met 15 year old girls who seemed to be able to make better, more intelligent, adult choices about sex than some of the 25 year old girls that I have been with.

I'm not saying that every 40 year old guy should be able to go out and bang 12 year olds all day long, but the idea that there is some arbitrary cut-off date where before that you are a stupid kids who can't make their own decisions and after that you're able to all of the sudden is preposterous to me. There are stupid girls than men could take advantage of out there who are 15, and there are stupid girls that men could take advantage of who are 30, the age of the girl isn't the only factor involved in her ability to use reason, and that should be the limit that we're going after. A person should be able to have sex with whomever they want as long as they can sufficiently display a comprehensive knowledge of the risks they are assuming by doing so.

Interestingly, burning people at the stake, segregation, and voting restrictions all had something to do with Christian superstition and superiority complexes. Not coincidentally, age restrictions on sexual consent are also driven largely puritanical and prudish people (primarily Christians) imposing their beliefs on others as divine law. Don't try to take what was said out of context. I was replying to someone who said that historically men had relationships with young girls and because of biology it was natural for old guys to want young girls. I made reference to other things that we did also historically but came to outgrow to infer that just because it was done in the past it does not substantiate an excuse to allow it in the present.

This guy is talking about includes 15 and 16 year olds, don't try to dissuade things by omitting that fact. And if don't realize it, sex with minors is predatory no matter if it was consensual or not; that's why there are laws. These laws are to protect impressionable minors who can easily be taken advantage of by libido driven, dirty old men who choose not to play with women their own age.

Coming from an 18 year old I say it would be perfectly fine for an older guy to check out a 15, 16 year old girl....some are obviously very developed girls, other are not....and I doubt they are looking at these ones. However, if they are banging a 15 year old and there 35....that's a little creepy.

I see what you are saying. But take away the word "old" and all you got are libido driven dirty young men her age who regardless will still try to stick their d1ck inside her. Is it safe to say that in that age of adolescence sex between two 16 year olds is considered consensual but older men is considered predatory?? why is that??

Now we know that 15-17 year old girls are sexually active these days. So if the law can't protect them from same age consensual sex then the only remaining barrier is themselves (saying no) or their parents (and you know parents these days cannot stop their daughters from having sex). Hance cosensual sex among 15-17 years old females with their own age males is considered legal in the eyes of the law.

I am not saying the law is good or bad just pointing a few interesting points.
