When does this thing begin? Anyone know...May, June?

It is the ultimate world championship in my opinion. Why?

Nothing beats a tournament that is country against country and only happens once every four years.

I always get perturbed when the World Series, NBA, NFL or other pro sports teams are called "World Champions"...how can you call someone a world champion when the competition is all domestic? Looks like College Football gets it right by calling the winners "National Champions" instead of "World Champions".

And please save all the..."they are called world champions" because the US has the best leagues.

i agree with world cup being the biggest sport in the world. If aliens came and we had to play for our freedom it would be in football. I dont care how others market their sports... It is just to make money, not to insult others.



Do you really think America stands a chance this year in football? Are you guys gonna shave the womens team and let them teach the guys a thing or two, lol

I've never been too interested in soccer (football as everyone else calls it lol), but this is not a bad year to start. All I know is some stuff about Brazil kicking ass, but I guess I will check it out. Please let us know if anyone knows when this starts and what channel if you are in the USA thanks in advance

I think I'm gonna be there, or at least I hope so. Man what fan fights there are going to be, although the German police is a lot better then the one from Belgium-Holland Euro 2000.

Expect riots on matches like: Germany-England, Germany-Holland and Holland-England.

The first match is 9th June 2006 and kicks off with the hosts Germany against Costa Rica.

Its going to be a great tournament - come on England!!!!!!

I will be routing for America, Poland and England. Though I am 1/2 Italian....I do not like the Italian team...they are a bunch of babies.

actually, I am not sure who will win and all. lots of good teams. For women, I think that the U.S. have a great chance, although Mia is gone*sniffsniff*

England, Argentina, USA and France are good teams, though.

Also I dont think Totti will recover until june and Italy withouth him sucks.

he didn't neccessarily say U.S. is better, but that germany and holland suck. I don't think they suck, but perhaps aren't playing their usual game.

Personally, I think the U.S. has great potential, but it is still gonna be a few years till they really tap into it.

You are contradicting yourself. In your opinion:

1. Germany doesn't suck.
2. Italy without Totti sucks.

Then explain why Italy totally destroyed Germany without Totti a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, Italy has lots of other excellent strikers, such as Toni, Gilardino, Del Piero, Cassano, Inzaghi and Lucarelli. Lots of people here hope that Totti won't be able to recover, so that Lucarelli or Cassano will be brought to Germany.

Italy WITHOUT Totti won against Germany 4-1 if I don't mistake, so your statement is wrong, unless you think that Germany not only sùcks, but sùcks a big deal.
