Hey guys, what are some exercises to tone up the sides of your body (love handle area, and sides of your ribs)?
They are called the obliques buddy. They contract with the abs. Deadlifts and squats hit them quite well. There's no need to do all these crunch variations.Originally posted by mateo_g
You can work these muscle groups with sidebridges, drawbridges and such. These are the musles that connect to your hips and the lower part of your abs. Sidebends are hard to describe, so follow the link later on. Drawbridges are laying down flat on a bench or floor and litfing your legs from prone to straight up (hence the name of the excercise). Add weight once it becomes easy.
HOWEVER
Working these muscles will not get them to show unless you have a low bodyfat %. So if you are doing bulking, don't try to get 6 pack abs to peek through, just do these exercises anyway, so that when you start cutting, the muscles will be toned.

As for the sides of your ribs, do lat pulldowns, seated rows, bent over rows, and most any back exercise.
you're referring to the serratus and they are worked by chinups.Originally posted by mateo_g
