Lifting or cardio?
I'm going to focus a bit on cardio now because I have some fat to burn and I've read that doing it in the morning, right after you wake up or have eaten is three times more efficient, because in the night you burn carbs that you ate over the day and some fat, but in the morning it's almost all fat.

For most people, training with weights will help you sleep and relax, it's only if it's within an hour or two of your bedtime that it may effect you.

Do you make a lot of noise? Maybe they have their own motives for your late night training.

working out at night is good. Though you may have less energy so watch out. It's good because you can workout, stuff yourself with a huge meal and then go to sleep right away which lets your muscles recover very quickly. I like to work out 2-3 hrs before bedtime so i can get alot of food in me first though. Also right before bed it's good to drink milk.

This is only for skinny guys with a fat metabolism though, if you are/were fat beware because alot of carbs before sleeping will get you fat at the same time as building muscle.

The main benefit of working out at night is the fact you get to go to sleep right after, and your muscles have an awesome 8 hr window of growth. You will gain some really nice results if you do this, eat good, and supplement properly.

Also, NEVER do cardio in the morning, you will lose weight fast, but majority of it will be muscle. Your cortisol levels are super high in the morning, doing cardio during that period of time will make you a thin frail little man once all that fat is gone.

Do cardio on offdays (days you're not lifting weights), and do it sometime in the afternoon.

Do high intensity:

30 seconds jogging
30 seconds sprinting

and repeat this for 10-15 minutes (no more then that). This and lifting weights will increase your metabolism to high levels. High metabolism = you burn fat faster. So you will be burning more fat no matter what you do, sleep, sit, work out, etc.

When you do it this way, you get to keep most of your muscle mass, and since you're working out too, you will gain some muscle mass too.

MindOVerMAtter, that is the most KICK ASSS Plan ever. I can't beleive I didn't think of it. Working out really energizes me, so I will run FIRST THING when I get home. Then my metabolism will be faster like you said throughout the whole night, and if it's a lifting day, I will lift at night 2-3 hours before I sleep.

It's wierd you mentioned this cause I noticed today when I went to the gym early in the day that everyone there wasn't in their best shape but the people I usually run into late at night were the muscular guys that have been doing it for years.

Not suggesting ones particularly better but just something I noticed today.

do what works for you.

assuming you're getting enough rest and food in theres no reason you cant workout at night

i'm kinda going on the assumption you're working at at like 9-10 or so....not gettin up at 2 am to hit the weights....but still

i have had some of my best workouts late at night

during the week i usually workout 7:30-9 have a shake and then wait an hour or so and then go to bed.

keep in mind like most ppl, while your parents surely mean well, they probably have abosolutely no idea what they're talking about
