I can't help but be amused by the differences in men and woman's clothing. Professionally, men are generally covered up completely with shirt, tie, and suit. Women show much more skin, plunging necklines, bare shoulders, spaghetti straps, short skirts, peek-a-boo holes, etc. And that's before you even get to casual wear.

They show all this extra skin despite being the gender that usually complains about being cold.

Some guys claim men are the more aesthetic sex, but I think this (among other things) shows otherwise. People aren't generally clamoring to see more male skin in day to day life.

I've actually gotten in trouble for "making people uncomfortable" by wearing a tanktop and shorts in the weight room at work. Anyone with more muscle mass will sweat more during physical activity, this is a pretty well known fact (higher metabolic rate). I literally did nothing wrong because within that context, the clothing was appropriate. It's not like I was wearing that while working. And yet, women walk around all the time wearing even more revealing clothing and many of them are fat and gross. Fat shaming is unacceptable but fit shaming seems to be accepted. The double standards are glaring and contemptible.

Notice also that a man can get into trouble just for "making someone uncomfortable" even if they've done absolutely nothing wrong. So apparently a woman's own insecurities have to be catered to on a professional level too. I wonder if I'd be taken seriously if I said that the things women wear make me "uncomfortable."

And it's always the unattractive, out of shape women that have a problem with me. Never the hot ones. Coincidence?

Sometimes they're symbols of empowerment and liberation from the patriarchy's repression of womens' sexuality. Sometimes it's for their own selfesteem and the last thing on their minds is male attention, which is just an unfortunate side effect. Sometimes it's to validate themselves with male attention whether alone or in an arms race with other women (which is the reason they will least admit to). Sometimes it's for fashion competition with other women, which may or may not be part of establishing the internal pecking order in the bytch pack.

Which one it is just depends on the individual woman and how she feels at the time.

It's similar to how there is an internal split within feminism over whether porn is a symbol of the patriarchy's oppression or a symbol of womens' liberation and empowerment, and the same thing for prostitution.

I always thought it was odd that well-dressed men look so buttoned-up (suits, tuxes) while women dress flamboyantly. In nature, you see the opposite. The male duck has a beautiful green head and wings, the female is brown. Bucks have ten point antlers. And of course peacocks have brilliant plumage while again, peahens have more muted colors. Hence PUA's took the term 'peacocking' to describe any flamboyant accent or apparel to catch attention.

As for skin, that's simple evolution...males are attracted by visuals, and I'm sure the curvaceous female form adapted in part for this reason. I don't know about you guys but I'm constantly undressing women with my eyes and I don't even do it consciously. I think women like the classic male form, too, but 1) usually they already are a little interested in the specific guy and 2) they hate overt displays.

This is because the peacock has his "wardrobe" encoded onto his DNA. A man has his ability to dress well - i.e., wealth - encoded to his bank account, and confiscatible by wifey (or ex-wifey).
