Female sex drive is more difficult to figure out due to birth control. Without birth control, it is somewhat easier to understand. Most women since the Baby Boomer generation have spent some portion of their fertile years using some hormonal birth control method.
Between ages 25-35, women's hormonal profiles are still good. Those are post peak fertility years but menopause is still distant. If they aren't on birth control, they will have stronger sex drives in many cases. When they have a child (happens for most women), the stresses of parenthood will decrease their interest in sex. The presence of a longer term relationship will also reduce their desire for sex as that's often less exciting for them.
In a woman's late 30s/early 40s, she may experience a boost in sexual desire due to a changing hormonal profile (in the absence of birth control). This is the female fertility equivalent of "Last Call" at a bar in the early morning hours before closing time.
Even with this increase in sexual desire, this might not translate into more sex in her actual life. Plenty of things can prevent more sex from actually being realized. Here are some common factors that prevent more sex for mid-30s to early 40s women despite more desire. Some women experience multiple factors below simultaneously.
1. Being in the same relationship with the same man 5+ years. They are usually married to these men and sexually bored of them.
2. Having 1-3 children ages 12 or younger. Most women around their mid-30s to early 40s have at least 1 child in their home who is pre-teenaged. Often time the child is in elementary school because both procreative and recreative sex has dipped in the marriage in recent years.
3. Career demands. Married women, women in committed, non-marital LTRs, and unmarried women not in relationships can experience this. For married women that experience this, they are experiencing this at the same time as Factors 1 and 2 above. Unmarried women with a history of shorter term relationships (often never married and childless) can really lean into their careers. Doing the whole Girl Boss thing can get in the way of frequent sex for a variety of reasons.
4. Caregiving for an elderly parent. This is minor factor that is typically only applicable for married women. Unmarried, childless women with careers don't tend to be caregivers. The married women who do this are also experiencing Factors 1 and 2. Additionally, caregiving responsibilities for elderly parents tend to happen after this hormonal peak and during menopause.
When

Below is a good article about female sex drive.
A few weeks ago, I talked about the types of male sex drive. Today, I’ll discuss the types of female sex drive. When I say “sex drive,” I mean the desire to actually have physical intercourse with another human being. In context of this article,...
