why is it that fat women always seem to eat a salad for lunch? even really fat ones. a salad. or something healthy. at least fat guys chow down.

a business lunch...a couple guys and a couple of porkers. they order a salad. a salad with low fat dressing.

other than themselves, who do they think they're kidding?

you don't get fat by eating salad. you get fat by eating a bag of potato chips at 11:00pm every night, topped off by a couple of Dove Bars.

the greatest poison is soy bean.

http://www.totalityofbeing.com/ArchivedSoyPoison.html

it's a very cheap (profitable) substitute filler that is now in damn near everything you eat. read the packaging ingredients in the grocery store and be shocked. the FDA loves soy and promotes it as healthy...and the average american is eating about 10x too much soy and its variants.

Women (and MEN) get fat because they EAT TOO MUCH.

Exercise is important, and good for you, but you have to put a heck of a lot of steps in on the treadmill to burn off a quart of ice cream.

Being overweight is essentially "cornbread poisoning."

It's all about caloric intake. Cut it down, lose weight. Eat a lot, gain weight.

Too much carbs is poisonous. This is true. Insulin resistance. A little carb in the diet is ok, and needed, but too much, and you're gonna get jiggly.

I think a lot of men get fat because of alcohol

Women get fat because they can. If they're married, they know they are the boss and can ruin their husband whenever they want. If they're single they know that there will always be a guy who likes to horse fat pigs.

while i agree, diet is essential, i actually think the main problem is that people are sedentary and as such have less lean muscle mass than they should.

they say every pound of muscle burns appx. 50 calories per day.

most 'fat' people should probably have 20-30 pounds more muscle than they do. if they exercised and put on that 20-30 pounds of muscle, they would be burning 1500 extra calories per day doing absolutely nothing (just that extra muscle mass would burn those extra cals). add 500 cals of exercise a day and your average guy could eat 4000 cals of food a day (which is a lot) and not even start getting fat.

the problem is these people have low muscle mass AND over eat, a deadly combo.

You're right!

How many people's day goes something like this:

Wake up.

Sit down, eat breakfast.

Sit down in your car and drive to work.

Sit down at work for 8-10 hours.

Sit down in your car and drive home.

Sit down and eat dinner.

Sit down and watch TV, or Sit down at some nightspot with friends/women/etc..

Lay down a go to bed.

Anyone notice the pattern here?

Anyone at all?

I don't think most American realize just how sedentary their days actually are. It feels like we're doing something when actually we aren't. For most people, who have 8+ hour a day jobs, if you asked them "are you active during the day" they would say "yes", but fail to realize that sitting down at work is actually very inactive.

I'm sure an invention called the television doesn't help matters any...

I don't know. But I will say that I think it's ironic that one of the most popular types of show is "reality television" where sedimentary people watch other people live. It's almost like the lazy person's version of The Sims. Where does reality come into play in any of this?

Now that I think about it, sporting events are just as popular yet it seems that more people watch sports than actually play sports. And no, I don't really consider pool, fishing, and hunting as "active" sports. I also question bowling and golf, not that the people who play aren't talented, but just how active are they really?

Whatever the reason : "muscle mass," "activity" (or lack of), "thyroid" problems (what a LAUGH!!!), or WHATEVER --- if you EAT more than you SHOULD (given your muscle mass, activity level, and basic metabolic situation), you get FAT. If you eat less, you DON'T.

THAT'S IT.

FAT is a function of DIET. (If NOT, then why do lap bands and gastric bypass operations "work"?)

(and, yeah, "sedimentary" is funny -- "rock people.")

the only problem though is that if you don't have any muscle mass if you eat ANYTHING you will get fat.

If you think about it, that's a ridiculous number. A guy with 100 lbs of muscle would have to eat 5000 calories a day just to maintain his weight. That's not even counting all the other body parts and processes that need calories.

It's been posted a few times in the H&F section, but the number of calories per lb muscle is between 6 and 11. I think the exact number usually given is 9. Or is it 8? Hmm..

MOST calories burned are burned just keeping the machine running. The BRAIN burns a quarter of these.

Calories burned by exercise are NOT as many as one might think. You gotta walk a mile or so to burn off a Snickers (I'm not sure about the exact distance, but this is just an example for effect.) A quart of ice cream isn't going away because you do a stairmaster for 20 min.

Exercise is important in more than one way, but CUTTING INTAKE is the key to not getting fat.

There are only TWO things that have been clearly established as means to increase longevity ---- NOT SMOKING, and LOW CALORIC INTAKE.

Women get fat because they have taken themselves out of the game. Period.

They may change their minds later and want back in, but it ain't happening. This is why so many fat women are also man-hating shrews. They quit, they let themselves go, and they don't have the strength of character to get thin again.

If a professional athlete quit his sport, let himself go to seed for ten years, and then came back 50 lbs. overweight (maybe 100) demanding his old contract at competitive wages, the managers would laugh in his face. No different, here.

This goes for guys, too. A lot of guys give up on the dating scene and let themselves go to hell. When I was married, I did. The first thing I did after my divorce was take up boxing again -- my wife "wouldn't allow it." I went right back to running till I puked every morning, just like the old days -- and with the help of my trainers I lost 60 lbs. in a year. I get a hell of a lot more looks from women at 165 than I did at 225. I'm back in.

not really. a 250 pound bodybuilder might carry 100lbs of muscle on him - the rest is his bones, brains, internal organs, water, tendons, etc. - remember, muscle retains a lot of water, so the more muscle you have the more your water weight goes up also.

and a 250 pound bodybuilders eats well over 5000 calories a day. they eat like 10,000 cals and they have no fat on them.

anyway, maybe the 50 cal is wrong, but it sounds resonable to me.

I'm going to share a little secret here about women...

Apparantly, women are genetically superior to us guys, they don't get fat..they get "big boned". A big boned woman told me this truth, so I thought I'd share.

I'd like to know how you add 40 lbs of bone to your frame. I'd also like to know how you get your bones to giggle when you walk. These are the questions that need to be answered.
