I'm experimenting with different hair styles and the pic is about 4-5 months old.

My goal is to get mucho muscle. I don't want people to look at me and think I'm small and weak. I know women have this thing were they want to feel that a guy can protect them or some shit and a skinny 5'6 guy isn't going to cut it.

The belly is annoying but I see no way of getting rid of it while I'm still trying to gain weight. Once I hit my goal I'll start cutting.

No offense, but you're too fat to bulk. It's just going to make it worse.

Do some cardio. Regularly.

Also, your image screams "I'm 17!" Lose the haircut and wear a nice shirt (not a t-shirt!) and good shoes. No running shoes, no sneakers... etc. Also, maybe its just me but those glasses don't seem to fit your face. You've got very soft features because of your weight. Basically, get rid of everything you're doing in that picture.

Not trying to be a jerk, but the sooner you start to realize your mistake, the sooner you can fix it.

You're overweight, do not bulk. If you decide to bulk then cut, I guarantee that you will not do it properly, and lose the muscle that you gained while bulking.

Your body is part of your problem as well, once you get into fantastic shape, women will start treating you differently.

Since I'm still going to a university I feel much better and fit in wearing a basic t-shirt & jeans/shorts outfit.

When school starts next week I'm going to be 29. I'm going to let the 20-22 year old girls I'm around decide for themselves how old I am. Dressing young helps. If they think I'm 23-24, I have no reason to correct them.

You made an interesting point about having soft features. That probably also contributes to my youthful appearance.

Interesting view points.

I really want to get bigger arms, chest and shoulders. How do I do it? Is it possible to lose fat and gain muscle?

Getting a big off topic but I'm now doing, squats 2 sets 5 reps of 190, dead lifts 2 sets 5 reps of 210. Once again, I only weigh 160.

My incline bench has been stuck at 110 for about a month.

If there's a way to meet my fitness goals and lose weight, I'd love to hear it.

As for the poll, 78% of people say it's not going to happen. Anybody want to put a wager on it :D

I'm taller than you but fatter. I'm on a cut. I'll be on a cut until I see my abs, then I'll be working on getting big. You are going to have to cut first and then bulk. YOu can't turn fat into muscle, and you can't get gains in strength while cutting. The only point in lifting weights on a cut is to preserve muscle.

My goal is to get like this guy. Cut hard first and then bulk up.

That being said you got your douchebag game going in your look. Roll with that douchy Guido MTV game and it might work out for you on some dumb bimbo types. MTV Bad Boy game baby. If you try hard at anything you will have some success, so I think you can.

Yes it is. It's more difficult than the standard cut and bulk but it is possible but slow.

Just do more upper body work, and do more reps to burn the excess energy. Also cardio. Don't kill yourself, think in weekly terms not daily. Find a good pace.

My incline bench has been stuck at 110 for about a month.
110 and how many reps?

Work on your diet. Remove all simple carbs. Refined flours and simple sugars are your worst enemies. No white bread, no white tortillas, no pastries, no sugar with coffee or tea... etc. Eat complex starches. Hell, even fries are pretty good even if a little greasy.

I don't know your fitness goals. What's the benchmark you want to reach 3 months from now?

Either you are making a mistake or i am making a mistake.

What is the difference between the complex carbohydrate in bread/flour and potato?

You have your science messed up.

What I do know is that potatoes have a lower glycemic index than white bread. Peeled, cubed potatoes. You add in the skin (extra fibre) and the glycemic index gets even lower.

Must be the sugar in the bread too, and I'm sure the bleaching agents that make the flour so white aren't helping.

No offense but you look like an annoying prick.

I'd buzz the hair, lose the shades, throw that shirt away. (j/k shirt is ok yet I like rocking nice fitting plain v-necks so much better)

Don't listen to these guys you're not fat really, you just lack any real muscle composition.

How many days are you going to the gym? I'd bump it up to at least 4-5 if you're serious about making gains. You have no shoulder width (you doing laterals and heavy shoulder pressing?) . Non-existent traps. HEAVY SHRUGS/ROWS are a must for you.:box: , deadlifts are good but hit the spinal erectors/legs more

It always comes down to eating for most, if your eating habits suck ass be honest with yourself and jjump on it. Eat clean most of the time a burger once in a while if that's your only option doesn't hurt either. It's just about moderation though. Experiment with volume, you could be short changing yourself there and are not stimulating your body enough to grow.

Toast/freeze any bread and it greatly lowers the GI. just some useful info. O I love that I can eat whatever the hell I want with no repercussions :) hehhe

I agree with a lot of posters that you need to get toned first....women could care less if you're "jacked." Being flabby is way worse than not being big enough. Plenty of hot women are sleeping with normal looking fit guys like me.

You need to strengthen your back, lats, ches, arms and shoulders while trimming your midsection to achieve the V-look (Wide shoulders/small midsection). Forget about trying to bulk.... you're out of proportion and that is killing your game more than anything. Quit thinking in terms of bulk and cut....you're out of shape.

Use this basic routine

Workout A (Mon-Wed)
2x10 Dumbell Bench Press
2x10 Dumbess Flies
2x10 Dumbell Shoulder Press
2x10 Dumbell Shoulder Shrugs
2x10 Dips (Use a weight belt when it gets easy)
2x10 Tricep pull downs

Workout B (Tues-Thurs)
2x10 Deadlifts
2x10 Rows or Back press
2x10 Wide grip Chinups(use a gravitron assist if you can't do them by yourself)
2x10 Pullups
2x10 Bicep curls

Cardio: 20-25 minutes jogging/treadmill Monday-Friday

While you're at it...lose the gel (too tryhard). Stop buying your jeans from American Eagle. If your gonna wear a graphic tee match it with a nice pair of designers, if youre looking to impress. A nice polo, khaki shorts (not cargo), and flip flops are good for the "college look"

This is just basic appearance/fashion advice. You need this in place as a prerequisite otherwise your dead in the water before you even approach an attractive girl. Hope this helps.

First off all, there's no way I'm out of shape. If it weren't for this gut, I'd actually look pretty decent.

So what is toned? All I'm trying to do is grow the parts you listed in the fastest/best way.

I already do the majority of the exercises you mentioned. Granted I don't do enough cardio. On workout days it's just a 10 minute warm up. On off-days I might do a few laps in the pool or do a bike ride. I can up it to 5-days a week, but I don't want it to interfere with muscle growth.

Interesting how nobody liked the faux hawk. Granted I haven't worn it in a few months. My most recent style is something like this. I'm open to suggestions as I want to get a haircut in the next couple of days.

I'm living on student loans at the moment and I don't have the cash to get designer clothing. Also it's really hot where I live and I'm wearing shorts and sandals 95% of the time.

I'm probably not eating clean enough. I hate to cook for myself. I rarely eat fast-food but what I do eat probably isn't much better.

Maxtro you need to grow a beard. You look too much like a nice guy.

Seriously try it. I lived most of my life clean shaven until just a few months ago and I have gotten great results from growing some facial hair. Just don't shave for whatever amount of time it will take for you to grow some facial hair.

I can't grow a beard or even sideburns.

For some reason the facial hair I grow is just a bunch of scattered little hairs. I don't get stubble. I have a trimmed goatee (which is not visible in the picture) so I don't look like a 15 year old and to dress up my non-existent chin.

After doing a little research, it may have something to do with my body's DHT. I have very thick hair and will most likely never grow bald but facial hair isn't really possible.

The gut fat is exactly what makes you look out of shape. Also, the fat on your legs (you have wide hips) and the fat on your face (you have very soft features).

So yes, add that all up and you're fat.

Well, toning is just some random jargon. It doesn't mean anything. But his workout seems to be fairly good. Lots of exercise which is great for burning fat and you've got upper body work as well.

I can up it to 5-days a week, but I don't want it to interfere with muscle growth.
Problem is, you don't have any muscle either. If you did, you would look bigger in the upper body. I don't see what muscle you're so worried about??

I'm living on student loans at the moment and I don't have the cash to get designer clothing. Also it's really hot where I live and I'm wearing shorts and sandals 95% of the time.
Designer clothing? I wear most of the stuff he mentioned. I shop at winners, clearance sales at some higher end stores, and the thrift store. It's not expensive, you just have to give a damn to look around.

I'm probably not eating clean enough. I hate to cook for myself. I rarely eat fast-food but what I do eat probably isn't much better.
Well, that's a problem.

x2 what alle gory posted. couldnt have said it better

Quit following "meathead" advice on how to get in shape. You want to look lean and virile. Whats the point of building a ton of muscle if you can't even run 50 yards without heaving for air. Or if youre banging a girl and she wants it harder and faster and you can't keep up. Work on building an aesthetically pleasing functional body first and then you can decide later if you want to add more size.

To reiterate....you're not in shape...sorry to burst your bubble. Lower your body fat and stregnthen the upper body, particularly shoulders and back. Remember, broad shoulders/back and small midsection is what girls find attractive regardless of your size. You can be a skinny bastard as long as you have the "v-shape" youre golden.

You guys make it seem like I do nothing to work on my upper body...

I've been doing; incline bench press, dumbbell press, military press, bicep curls, tricep pull-downs and horizontal rows. I have no idea why my upper body is taking so long to develop. I'm going to add in pull-ups and dips.
The gut fat is exactly what makes you look out of shape. Also, the fat on your legs (you have wide hips) and the fat on your face (you have very soft features).

So yes, add that all up and you're fat.
I'm aware that my gut and love handles makes me look fat. My legs are muscular and my hips are bony. My most recent set of squats was 30lbs above my body weight.

Frankly I don't really know why the fat hasn't been burning away as I've worked out. I'm getting stronger but the relative BF% has stayed the same as my weight has gone up. I'm going to get my BF officially measured in the next couple of weeks to find out where I really am.

Lower your body fat and stregnthen the upper body
How do you do both at the same time?

I've heard that the best way to build muscle is heavy weights, and eat more. If It's wrong, I'd love to hear what the proper way is.

I really need to work on my diet.

Anyways the funky little heel lifts I ordered came in today. I stick them in my shoes and I'm magically taller. 5'6 barefoot, 5'7.5 in shoes. I'm deciding if I should bother wearing them to school. I still don't know how much of an impact my height has on women.
