I think each person has to find a balance between jerking off too often and not doing it enough. Everyone varies. I think it's a bad idea to avoid masturbating to point of feeling frustrated for the reasons jonwon mentioned. a little bit of "edginess" can help you in picking up women but too much can harm your abilities.
