Many people start lifting, and the first thing they want to know is what supps to take. Granted some are great, and we can use them, but the majority of people OVER DO IT. They think if they stack 6 products or what not they'll get that much bigger. Then they fail at the eating or lifting.
You wont see it too much as opposed to elsewhere. Now a prime example of what I am talking about is for instance a post like this.... (actually a supp log)
Guy is trying out a new supplement, and what else is he taking on top of the new supplement?
- Controlled Labs Orange TRIad
- Millennium Sport Technologies Shred-XS HARDCORE
- Millennium Sport Technologies Kreaceps-XS
- Xtreme Formulations ICE
- Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein
- Precision Engineered ProtoPlex Deluxe
- Walgreen's Finest Naturals L-Lysine HCL
- Various Stimulants if Needed
Guy is probably in his early 20's and 5'8 154lbs. Started training 2yrs ago.
Calories: 3,000 - 3,500
Carbohydrates: 250 - 300 grams (1,200cal)
Protein: 225 - 275 grams (1,100cal)
Fats: 150 - 175 grams (1,575)
Water: Roughly Three (3) Gallons Per Day
I calculated his calories off what he provided on grams of nutrients, and his high should be 3,875cal not 3,500.
Now a few things from his log...
the DOMS from two days before in my quads were so severe that I couldn't do them. The extra BCAA's do not seem to be doing anything for me in that department.
"Really?, the BCAA's aren't magically making your DOMS go away? Who would have thought?"
He then talks one day about how his diet still really isn't there. This is a HUGE problem, and those supps WILL NOT make up for it.
Supplement trial is about over, and almost 30 days and he is up I think a total of 6lbs.
Impressive? Some seem to think so, but some should be able to gain 1lb per week, so what... 4lbs in a month. SUPP FREE!
So what's my point? 6 supplements worth and only 6lbs. Can some help? Again, yes, but people go too far. I've never/never will take 6 things like that at once. There is no need to do it, and your gains you can see are really minimal.
Not only will you save yourself money, you will save your body from going haywire from all of that crap in the body at once. You should be able to gain VERY close to that by raw food only and a great workout.
My guess is his diet is not what he says it is, and he doesn't eat what he needs too.
I'm stating this for why we dont talk too much about supplement stacks, or go on and on about 200 supps out there like a bodybuilding board. I think most of us on here are the opposite. We aren't stacking loads of supps, but taking our basics and lifting and eating. Its ok to try a supp and see what it does, but taking 6 at a time is nonsense, and a waste really. If you need to take 6 you need your head checked. I'm not talking vitamin/fish/green tea and those things, i'm talking about 6 different products like what is up top he takes.
I never will understand why people do it. Must be the more the merrier concept.
