Random thoughts on why one should read:
To learn about the thoughts and emotions of intelligent people. This will expand your own thought process.
To learn from the mistakes and successes of others. You will make better decisions when you run into similar situations.
To obtain knowledge.
When you analyze characters, you learn psychology.
When you can you better analyze situations in literature/history, you can better analyze situations in real life.
When you read you are exposed to tools of writing and general communication. This will increase your own ability to communicate. For example: if I read more in highschool maybe I would be able to put together a coherent paragraph and not just a buncha random thoughts.
And a buncha other reasons. . .
