2 things happened recently which brought home why we are important and what qualities we bring and how masculinity is important.
My wife is pregnant and we went to a pre-natal appointment. We had to wait a long, long time. My wife currently is puking off morning sickness and generally in pain. We were seeing lots of people turn up and get seen. So, she was not up to fighting battles, so I hastled the staff, they immediately took blood/urine and sent us back to wait 15 mins. At 25 I had a fairly strong worded discussion and they went off, and returned with a doctor.
Now, I’m 37 and I doubt I would act like this when younger and I saw a couple of dudes/women give me looks, I guess some had been waiting a long time too but had more patientce.
I’m not turning this into some alpha/beta crap but being a hostile dude who can do so without getting himself chucked out is quite useful to a pregnant woman. I stated to see the difference between “strong” and “jerk”. I can be a jerk if I want but only when it’s advantages me or my own.
I also heard her being “fobbed off” ie health service not wanting to put themselves out. She has a medical condition which makes her pregnancy need a little more support. I could tell the person who she was speaking to was just not wanting to book extra appointments (this is NHS so they don’t care, you have to drive them).
I took the phone off her and in about 2 mins we had the appointment.
Little things in the modern age, but these things are stuff a lot of women can’t do because it’s confrontational.
I know there is a “don’t fight her battles and white knight”, but she is carrying my child and she just would have rolled over and accepted less without my intervention, which is risking her, and the baby’s wellbeing and by proxy mine as well!
Really felt good when doing these things, like I just slayed an ox or fought away a tiger. In a much smaller way of course!
