It is kinda silly that they don't allow political discussion due to the fighting and flaming, when nearly every other thread descends into fighting and flaming anyway. At least with political discussions, we could fight and flame about something meaningful.

I totally agree with this policy as long as sensitive threads only get closed after things start to get out of control. Basically no politics allowed as a general rule, but somewhat lenient on a case to case basis in its application.

Because:

1) Talking about politics has nothing to do with attracting girls and women

2) It only creates fights and more fights.

3) When we say "politics", it's actually never about the facts contrary to what many people might think, it's not even about opinions, it's about beliefs. People will almost never change their beliefs since it's one of the very foundations of their own existence. Try to convince a conservative to become liberal, or try to convince a sionist that Israel also commits atrocities, try to convince some people that globalization is bad, and some others that globalization is good, etc... All you gonna get is just insults fights and more insults

4) It will be meaningless because it will only be a dialog of the deaf.

5) A few things to avoid talking about if we want a relaxed, non conflictual atmosphere here: politics, religion; and too a lesser extent: race and geopolitics.

Because it is a forum geared toward the betterment of the male interaction with women perhaps?

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Thing is, some (most) members, and not only on this board, tend to hold grudges. A flamewar in one forum tend to spray into others as well.

I second that. It will split members and the advice will suffer. I am sure Allen thought about it or have seen it first hand on other forums when he created this one.

Fair enough its just a shame we cant be adults and have a mature conversation about politics without turining this board into a school playground.

P.S Im actually suprised i didnt get flamed for bringing it up.

Actually your question was a legitimate one, so no one would flame you on that.

But experience has showed that debating about politics or religion and other sensitive and very divisive topics can only split the community without bringing any visible benefits.

Many times the moderators are flexible, from time to time borderline sensitive topics still get brief debates and then get closed just before things start to get out of control.

My question is why is it so important to discuss politics here? I'm the first to say that a guy who is well versed in several topics has a better chance of being interesting. However that's not because he knows more or knows about a particular topic; it's about his presence, his demeanor, his actions, things which are seemingly intrinsic to him, not things external or superficial to him such as miscellaneous topics.

Politics (and religion) always conjure up a special kind of debate. We could have a civil debate on car mechanics, aviation history, and whether Angelina Jolie would make a good screw (yes)... But nearly the moment politics or religion arguments light up the switch board, the argument becomes exceptionally irrational. You have name-calling, mud slinging, ad hominem attacks, and discussing everything but the subject at hand. The actual "argument" stops after a few posts and the rest is an inferno.

Plus, politics (and religion) are guaranteed to turn into a fight every time, whereas for practically any other subject it's up to luck.

Thanks Deep Dish you hit the nail on the head. Nice summary.
