Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, sculpture, and paintings.
From Wikipedia.

Why is art relevant? Why is art necessary? Why is art useful?

And in context of this site, does a woman's (or any other human being's) art, of preferance of, any indicator of their (soul/way of being etc)? I remember Pook talking about something like this, does anyone remember something about this?

Are you wearing clothes right now? Art's necessary, think of it pragmatically.

current art sucks.

but in a day where there no news, no facebook, no papers, hell when half of the public could not read or write, art was... everything. Art was the editoral. Art was the happenings of the day.

That's why art is important.

I didn't get it.

Besides, to the "current art sucks" wave: Ok, but someone who thinks that way must like past art. Why is that art relevant/necessary/useful, etc?

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

Art predates written language. Art is important and relevant because art is communication and human beings need expressions of creativity.

I really dug the art. When I first read your post I thought they were examples of trash and I was thinking to myself "Damn, these are good. It reminds me of the National Art Museum."

Art is only important because people make it that way

If no one cared then You wouldn't either

art is all around us

the trees, the smells, even a nasty fart can be considered art to someone

It's important that people express themselves and their talent.

All art really is about is the individual, an artist creates art for themselves and no one else. They couldn't really give a fvck what you thought as it's all about their creative process and what they get out of it.

Some of it is rubbish but there are still artists out there with a load of talent who can do awesome stuff!

Art is very powerful because you can use it to express emotion; it's that simple. Most women love art because they can always connect with it in some way, and it's fun!

I'm going to make bracelets with one of my friends next time we chill. Art is the expression of beauty, emotion and soul. You could paint a picture of the ugliest thing imaginable and still make it amazing.

People who look at this work would be staring at something incredibly disgusting and still be fascinated at the sight of the soul that came from your brush. You can feel what the artist was thinking/feeling when they painted the picture.

I wonder where is the line drawn between art and pornography?
The men who painted them are generally considered "masters" if I understand things correctly. There is nothing in those paintings that is graphic like porn is. But they do make me appreciate the female form.

True, but back in those days before there were magazines, photos and things, I bet dudes were jerking to paintings like that. I bet you anything.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

No doubt the Jophils of the world will have something snarky to say about this, but there is a theory that sexual selection played some part in the develpment of art and culture

http://www.amazon.com/Mating-Mind-Sexual-Choice-Evolution/dp/038549517X

Although this gets into some fairly uncharted territory as far as evolutionary psychology goes, if you read the book it isn't hard to see how a solid argument can be made that the development of art has some of its roots in men wanting to get laid.

First off, just as with architects and emperors, how many truly great female artists have ever existed? Can't think of too many, huh? Hell, even the fashion industry employs a ton of male designers.

Also, look around you. Chicks are drawn to artsy type men. We won't go into how rock stars get laid like, well, ROCK STARS, because a lot of that is a caricaturization and has more to do with the social proof of being up in front of a group than anything, but yea, we all know that guys who play music get tail.

Best thing to do is read the book. Pretty interesting theories.

Yes!

Music, art, comedy... they are all expression of fitness. The fitness of a well working mind. You can look at a man's muscles, you can watch his deeds, but you can't "look" at his mind. A woman can only know a man's mind indirectly and it makes sense that these things have evolved as a way for a man to display that he is mentally healthy.

I'm in agreement with the role sexuality plays in art, but is mental fitness the trait which is sought? The whole notion of a tortured struggling artist is rather common. I would take the evolutionary psychology viewpoint art is attractive because it expresses creative ingenuity, a skill which is essential to the development and survival of our species, and therefore recognizing it is imprinted in our instinctive proclivities.

The point being that art is necessary for virtually everything you see around you. Your clothes had to be conceived and designed by an artist. Your car, your toothbrush, your home, were all began with an artist's concept.

So yes, very useful, relevant and necessary.

Art has nothing to do with sexuality, unless you're referring to paintings of naked people or that Ancient Greek statue crap with the small dycks...

Women like art because it's relaxing, creative and expressive.

There are plenty of female artists too as well as male artists. And women aren't attracted to artists because they're artists; that's complete bullshvt.

How does being an artist show social status other than by having a body of work?
It doesn't really, unless you're a famous artist.

Some girls are attracted to artists because they perceive them to be sensitive or something, and soulful. But everyone has their preferences; I bet there are probably millions of guys who aren't artistically talented at all and still are able to get women.

Art is something personal though, it's not supposed to create some sort of "attraction."
I swear, you guys are so silly sometimes on this forum...
