why is it that inner game, which i assume is the product of improving the self, work with attracting women?
why does self improvement work?

Really though, its because women are attracted to personality and the traits and qualities of a man, not his looks (not as much). If you improve your personality, traits, and qualities, you'll attract women (but looks count a little too).

Its all inner game. Nothing external can stop a real man, there are only obstacles that take extra time and perseverance to overcome. Its only when we tell ourselves that we can't do it, that we fail. Failure comes from within. Self improvement rejects failure and turns it into just another obstacle to overcome.

Imagine that you did *zero* maitenence, never washed it and ran it out of gas on every tank. Receipts and coke cans piled in the backseat, the interior is worn and smelly.
Would you go on a 'first date' (that word doesn't sit well with me but that's another issue) in that thing? What would she think of you?
It's funny, but that's what a lot of people do every day. They just exist and accept their surroundings without realizing that they have the power to change it. Just like the car, it's a bunch of small things that add up to a greater whole.

reading does wonders for inner game. we aren't giving an instruction manual on how to succeed in life. sometimes when you read, it totally relates to what made you succeed and what made you fail.
when people say the saying " it's all in your head " it's true. everything that stops you from your true potential is whats in your head. try reading about the subconscience mind sometime.

Imagine this, there is two guys one is who is fun to be with, isn't self concious, and makes everyone around him feel great.
Another guy is trying really hard to act cool and tough, he doesn't talk much, he won't dance or do whatever activity they are at or anything fun, and while he thinks he is com ing across as the bad boy, all her friends are saying he's anti-social and too shy to participate.
Imagine one guy has traveled all over the world, been with exciting women,seen exciting places, obviously he is a master of getting the most out of life and always finds a way to take what he wants from life. He has lots of hobbies and many things going on in life.
Another guy just stays at home most of the time. He takes whatever crumbs life throws at him, and he really doesn't have an interesting life or anything interesting to talk about. All this guy has to do is talk about his routine which is the same day after day week after week year after year.
A side effect of having a really great life is it works like a magnet. Most women don't really have very interesting lives. They have some good friends and one or two things they are interested in if they are educated. They are like the negative charge. When a man comes around who has an awesome life and is truly happy and fun and isn't surrounded by walls of insecurity, then he is the positive force. She is attracted.
