I understand that people think of French fries, chips, and the like when talking about potatoes, but some people consider it on the bad side of food. Why is that? Ever since potatoes became known to the Europeans, their population flourished. And Irish people tend to be strong as hell and their ancestors pretty much lived off of potatoes. I think most people don't eat the skin so maybe that's why (it's supposed to be very rich in nutrients or something). I thought they were especially more preferred since they're a starch so they don't spike your insulin or something.

I second that about sweet potatoes. I make a huge batch once a week and consume them in between meals to stay full. I'm trying to gain weight with the gym work, so sweet potatoes are my go-to snack and are good complex carbs.

Sweet potato provides a good amount of vital minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and potassium that are essential for enzyme, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism.

Potatoes are low calorie, with a medium-sized baked potato containing only about 110 calories. They are a good source of vitamins C and B6, manganese, phosphorus, niacin and pantothenic acid.

They have more calories than just 110. That's probably for a small sized potato, not a medium sized one.

Starch is made up of molecules of glucose, a simple sugar, which our cells can use as fuel with very little processing from our bodies. It goes right to the bloodstream, and the blood sugar spike prompts the pancreas to release insulin, which enables our body to either use or stores that sugar.
Potatoes have calories," says Nestle, and she mentions that pesky word "moderation." But she's sure not giving them up, and she doesn't think we have to, either.

Chips and fries all are fried in oil, so that adds a ton of calories, plus yeah, you often don't get the skin. But potatoes by themselves are alright. Just don't overeat, like anything else. Olive oil is good for you too, but if you guzzle a bottle of it daily, you'll gain weight.
